No Table Talk today because I'm on vacation...I wish

No Table Talk today because I'm, well, on vacation. Funny, I don't feel like I'm on vacation. Sometimes coming back from a week off makes the week off not seem worth leaving for. The worst is my e-mailbox yelling at me because I'm over my size limit.

No, I didn't eat too many fish fries in Florida.

My deadline, by the way, is the Thursday before the column appears in the paper unless there's important news to stick in at the last moment.

I figured the editors wouldn't want to reprint my Top 10 from last week either because it was so blog-centric, but it made it into the paper. Here's the link if you want to see how it was tweaked to work in print and what comments were selected.

I don't think somebody gets it. They point people to the "Talk Forums" to discuss those topics.

Let me see if I understand you. You're complaining because you had a little work to do while you are on vacation, In the last week alone, there are probaly over 100,000 people who've lost their jobs and wish they could complain like your post. Way to go Large Lady!! How does that foot taste?

No, I'm complaining because I had a little work to do when I got back from vacation. :-) EL

I know the feeling, EL. In one of my earlier jobs, I used to come back from vacation to piles and piles of charts that were saved for me to do my part to and then file - and the current charts requiring the same treatment. I used to feel like it wasn't even worth taking off because I had to do twice the work to catch back up!

Hey Pelham, no need to get snarky with Elizabeth because there are over 100,000 people without jobs. She's certainly not responsible and with the company she works for, she never knows if she'll be next. And, just because the country is in a recession, are you implying that the rest of us who are still working should mutely do everything over and above the usual expectations for our jobs and work for less money and shut up because we're lucky enough to be working?

Take it up with the bankers if you wish to have a target for the recession, Pelham. Banks and their real estate collegues have not only toppled our economy but the entire world's.

WORD

Oh, I just gotta say it. {rant on}Once again we are rewarding the people who brought us to ruin. Who will benefit from whatever Stimulus Package our Congresscritters enact? The Wall Street brokers who kited stock prices like a forger wishes he could kite a check and came up with investment vehicles that even the professionals couldn't explain. The bankers who ignored generally accepted loan requirements to get more loans out there even if repayment was a mathematical uncertainty. And, yes, the people who believed all the pie-in-the-sky stories and bought cars and homes they couldn't afford and took on debt they couldn't repay. Everybody who did the wrong thing will be helped out and the rest of us who didn't buy into the hoopla lose their jobs, can't put food on their tables (obligatory food reference), and are hung out to dry.{rant off}

I feel you, RiE. I'm not surprised, but I am not happy.

me too, RiE! (what Lissa said)

Everything Rie said! AND! Those freakin' bankers sat in front of congress and didn't look the least bit sheepish about their bonuses and other pocket-lining schemes!

I don't like them and I don't wish them well.

Blaming bankers is like blaming drug dealers. I watched all you greedy bastards as your played musical chairs with your homes and prices were inflated for no genuine reason, Suck it up - you were mainlining avarice. Detox is a bitch.

The stock market and the housing market inflation was ALWAYS going to crash, it just went on a few years longer than I expected because I underestimated to greed and stupidity of Americans. It's just Dutch tulip bulbs on a grander scale.

I'm sure there is a special circle in hell ...

Actually, Pelham, I think EL was trying to make a joke about the time lag between when she is actually on vacation and when the column she would have written that week actually runs. By the time the "vacation box" appears, she's usually already back at her desk.

I've already converted my savings into Tullip Futures. This time I'm going to be on the front end of the bubble....unlike my 2006 condo purchase or 1999 entry into the stock market.
