Date night at the Easton Giant rocked

ChocolateFountain.jpgI had given up on qzans and Robin after Zevonista sent us his report on Valentine's Eve at the Giant.

But when I got in this morning I found that qzans had sent me a ton of photos and a wrap up of her evening that will make you want to move immediately to the Eastern Shore so you can shop at the Easton Giant. Wine and cheese? Free Starbucks coffee? Bowling with Cornish game hens? Sigh.

Many thanks, qzans. I enjoyed the photos, but I'm only going to post one because they're too large for my computer to handle. By the way, I don't think you qualify as a lurker any more.

The rest of you, take note of the fame and glory that have come to qzans and Zevonista and start sending me your photos, preferably of NEW restaurants, and preferably under 1 MB in size so my computer won't start frothing at the mouth.

Here's qzqans' e-mail: ...

"Sorry that this comes so late. I was in class all day today. Our bowling included frozen cornish game hens. Some highlights of the evening included a beautiful chocolate fountain, filet and lobster tail, wine and cheese, and FREE starbucks coffee.

"I have attached some pics from the evening. I have to send 4 different emails because I can only attach so many pics before the program becomes enraged and boots me. [My Outlook e-mail was enraged too. :-) EL]

"So, there are more pics to follow...

"Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to comment on.

"Thanks (and I love your blog...even if i may only be a lurker)

The Giant employee in the picture does not appear to be having fun.

qzans, you definitely aren't a lurker any more. Welcome to the cult.

Photos under 1 Mb? What am I a magician you ask? Here's my cool tech tip of the day (which I got from a really cool chick I know). There's an online photo editor that is easy, easy and free.

http://www.picnik.com

It's very easy to use to resize a photo, crop, and even auto-adjust the colors. You can even sharpen the images from your blurry cel phone. FYI most of my Funtastic Thursday photos were done with Picnik.com.

Bravo for you, you lazy bastard. When are you going to do another Thursday post? Out of ideas? Just sitting in a corner huffing glue and watching Oprah? Come on, dance monkey, dance!

Slap of wrist! You are not allowed to end a comment in italics so I just took them out so people wouldn't think that was me talking. And don't teach your grandmother how to suck eggs. Yeah, picnik is great for resizing. It doesn't really help if Outlook implodes before I can ever save the photo to my computer or it ties up my computer for half an hour as it uploads very, very slowly. EL

Cornish game hen bowling? How refined!

For a somewhat more gutsy endeavor, check out the turkey bowling scene in Christopher Moore's novel "Bloodsucking Fiends":

http://books.google.com/books?id=8sDRa6E7rQUC&pg=PA45&lpg=PA45&dq=%22christopher+moore%22+turkey+bowling&source=bl&ots=06zEyWqHz9&sig=5YbQhPfdYPnTrEaqXQn5tcY2jLk&hl=en&ei=KZWZSe7vEqCiMq6Dif8L&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result#PPA45,M1

don't teach your grandmother how to suck eggs.

What's that supposed to mean? Italics have been used here for a long time for a variety of purposes. We know your comments because you sign them with your initials. Jeez, and the comment was meant to help you. Maybe we can talk about single serving spices now. 8>[

Yes, commenters may use italics but not at the end of the comment. Otherwise people would think I was chiding you rather than you chiding you. The sucking eggs part had to do with picnik, which we have discussed before. I'm sorry I caused the sad owl face. EL

Twasn't me. Thank Zevonista. I didn't find out that my local Giant was doing this until Saturday morning.

Sorry, I'll correct it. Too much multitasking. EL

Jeez, I'm still using Office and Outlook 2000 (cheap bastard, I guess) and I can shrink photo sizes easy before emailing.
Save the files to your computer, then go find them. It helps to put them all in one folder. Once you find them, select all the ones you want (hold down CTRL as you click on them if you don't want all of them), then the Task pane on the right should show different options. Choose the "email selected files" option and then a little box opens asking if you would want to send them using original file sizes or make them smaller. Choose make them smaller and Explorer/Outlook shrinks them and put them in emails as attachments.
As a webmaster of a Ravens Roost website, I often use that trick to shrink picture sizes.
That trick usually shrinks pic sizes by 2/3 or more, and the quality is still the same.
Hope that helps!

BTW, this is the year I upgrade Office to the newest version I swear.

To keep this food related, strawberries are on sale here, Florida grown ones at least. Is is okay to eat the ones that aren't deep red all around?

Thank you. That was all I was trying to encourage people to do. Shrink before mailing. Which, to be fair, Owl does. For whatever reason, TPTB determined we would only be writing and editing with our PCs, not manipulating photos. They were bought before blogging. As for strawberries, I've been getting some great ones that are still white around the stem. I was surprised they tasted as good as they did. EL

The way things are going down here, if I don't get another gig here by April I will be back up in Maryland, most likely on the Eastern Shore. Easton might be a good choice, since it has that cool Giant there.

This'll be overkill for most folks and their photos, but there is a version of The Gimp for Windows. It is free, open source and guaranteed to drive your IT staff crazy.

It is an image manipulator, like Photoshop, but a lot harder to use. But, did I mention it was free?

GIMP? Sweet sassy molassy! No! Try Picnik.com. It's super easy to use and has more functions that you could probably ever use. If you want to layer images or put your head on someone else's body, then GIMP is good. It will take you a couple weeks to figure it out though.

Where's the love Lissa?

Is is okay to eat the ones that aren't deep red all around?

Hey, they won't kill ya and they're still better than NO strawberries!

Owlie, you know I hate people.

picnik.com works great for most folks. The Gimp is good for others. Personally, I use Image Magick from the command line in Linux to resize pics. That is really hard, except that I crib other people's scripts.

The Gimp might work for EL, though. Especially if she can get someone else to figure it out.

Oh, if you going to the shore, why shop at a Giant. You can shop at a Giant at home. You should go some place exotic, like an Acme.

It;s nice to see the Lissa/Owlie axis of evol still at work. I don't know how you guys have the energy to keep it going, but keep up the good work. Sweet sassy molassey? I don't think you really hate people Lissa, maybe just stupid people (and by that I mean stupid due to laziness).

Acme? Isn't that where Wile E. Coyote shops?

Thanks, RoCK! first smile of an aggravating day!

Hi Amanda. Did RtSO flatter you off of your quiet perch? 8>)

I have heard of a magical place called Piggly Wiggly too. I'm going there this weekend to buy straw to build a house.

Acme? Isn't that where Coyote buys all his stuff? Beep beep.

When I was a kid we had Acmes...or would the plural of Acme be Acmi...anyway, we had them in Harford County. I don't know if they were in Baltimore County. Anyway, Acme is big in New Jersey, Delaware and there are a few left on the eastern shore. I'm pretty sure there is still one on the main drag of St. Michaels.

when i first moved to the shore a few years ago, and i saw people with "acme" bags, i thought it was some sort of eastern shore joke that i wasn't in on. now i know, there really IS an acme. and, sadly, they don't sell industrial strength anvils.

There is an Acme in NJ. My dad shops there. It's the same size that it was when it was originally built 50 years ago, so it's small. And, uhhh, doesn't feel clean.

RoCK - There is an Acme in Fallston. On Bel Air Road, at the intersection where Josef's is/was, on what feels like the NE corner.

How does Wile. E. Coyote pay for all that stuff? He's been buying it since before credit cards.

Acme --> acmi? Really RoCK? You're better than that. All that time in your drafty grotto, I'm sure you picked up the basic forms of Latin and Greek well enough to know how silly that is.

Plus, acme or akme can have no plural in the original Greek sense (this all seems odd to me since akme doesn't have a Greek noun ending.).

Ironically if you could have more than one Anna Akhmatova (or is that Akhmatovae?), you could have Acmeists.

The ACME in Easton has the best fried chicken around. When you get out of the car, the aroma surrounds you and you have no choice but to buy some. Reminds me of how the Inner Harbor used to smell of cinnamon.
