Of Snyder's Cafe and Deli and Py Pizza

PyPizzaPie.jpg

While I'm able to post today, I'm going to make the most of my opportunity. Here are two e-mails I've gotten recently asking for information I don't have. Anyone? ...

Have you heard anything about Snyders Cafe and Deli, in Owings Mills, closing? I've gone twice in the past several weeks during times they should be opened, and it's dark and locked, no sign indicating anything. Yesterday I tried calling and got the dreaded fast busy signal.  They had the best Matzo soup.

Have you heard anything about Py Pizza closing in Canton? It's dark inside and neighbor says they haven't opened in over a week. My call Friday night went unanswered. Would be a real shame...was one of my favorite pizza places. Although they never really seemed to get things together.

Barb - heard it from neighbors that Snyder's has indeed closed. Try Suburban House or Miller's. They have excellent matzoh ball soup too.
It's too bad about Snyder's because of late they had really cleaned up thier act and had great wait staff and short waiting times which was always previously my complaint about them. Their food always rocked.

Py is closed. If you going to sell slices of pizza late night to drunken kids, make it cheap and simple. I went in their one time and then were sold out of pizza at 11 p.m. Come on.

Py has closed. IMHO they had expanded hours to try and accommodate a vast demographic. It's hard to be things to all people.

I am so heartbroken. That was the best pizza in East Baltimore, at the very least. I wish I had eaten it every day in anticipation of this sad event. Sigh.

KB,

Head over to Pasta Mista on Boston.

I am a true pizza lover (I eat it about 5 times a week and have driven from Baltimore to NYC just to get pizza, eat it, and get one to bring home).

Other than Italian Sensations out in Harford County, Pasta Mista has without a doubt the best "traditional" pizza.

I can't say a general "the best pizza" because I have categories of pizza.

There's straight up good authentic italian (Pasta Mista), NYC style (found ONLY in NYC, trust me), thick Chicago style, and then miscellaneous types (Matthews, Squires, Pizza Johns, etc)

I'm really disappointed that Py is closed. They truly did have great pizza but the prices were just ridiculous in comparison to the $8 large cheese pizza you could get next door at the Pizza and Wing factory.

My mother lives in Pikesville and said Snyder's closed because the people who own the building were charging an outrageous amount for the rent. Snyder's owners could no longer foot the bill and opted to close.

As far as Py...yes their prices were a little expensive but they had a great product. I am both surprised and disappointed that they closed.

Py was good, but it was way too expensive once they shrunk the pizza sizes and kept the prices the same. Plus, they just seemed to be poorly run... the kids working there reminded me of annoying suburban chain restaurant servers who think they're being helpful but are the most annoying and oblivious people ever. Maybe someone new will take over and put the oven to good use.
