Monday Morning Quarterbacking

tapabar2.jpgYesterday I reviewed Tapabar, the new tapas restaurant in Little Italy.

If you have something you want to say about the review, this is the place to do it. Or if you've been and want to tell us about your meal there, feel free.

I got an e-mail from someone recently complaining about the concept of tapas. He said the portions were so small what was the point of spending $10 each for three dishes when he could spend $30 for one entree at a more traditional restaurant.

I pointed out that this way you have some choice about how much you want to eat without having to ask for a doggie bag, and the mix-and-match variety is appealing, but I don't think my arguments convinced him.

I love the concept of small plates, whether it is tapas or a tasting menu at a regular restaurant. Looking at the menu and wine selection of Tapabar I see nothing that would draw me to this place over Isabella's. I was really shocked to see no sherry offered. Every tapas bar I have been to has a selection of sherry and usually offers a flight for tasting purposes. I guess this is one difference between a Tapas restaurant run by South Americans as opposed to the Spanish.

As for the review I will say I never thought the day would come when the phrase "but whatever" was used by a proffessional journalist but whatever, I guess I am no longer hip with kids.

So this place, according to its Web site, is not open for dinner on Saturdays, which I find surprising.

I think maybe you were looking at the breakfast times? EL

I just went by OMG's office and he is rolling on the floor having a seizure after reading EELs post. After shoving his wallet in his mouth I gave him something shiny to play with. It's not pretty. Thank god it's Casual Diazepam Monday here at Megatron.

I like variety, so embrace small plates whole-heartedly. And find it better to spend $10 on three small plates and enjoy two of them, then blow the whole wad on one entree that perhaps is not as enjoyable.

Dinner: Tuesday - Sunday 5:00pm to close
Close on monday

No offense dancing monkey but you need to stop taking whatever is making you dance so much, unless you count the days of the week like Appolonia in The Godfather. Drop your glow stick and count the days with me ...

Many times I order several appetizers instead of a main course so I love the concept of small plates.

VP- how does one get their HR Dept to buy into "Casual Diazepam Monday"? Because I'd like to have that instituted at my place of business asap!

Had a party of 4 there the other night. With alchol the total was about $100. Enjoyed nearly everything we ordered, but can especially recommend the seafood bisque. Tapas are great fun with a small group of people.

I'd love the place, my Other Half would probably hate it, but that's another story. What's the pictured dish, please? It looks like stuffed cabbage, but that can't possibly be right, can it?

This crosses a couple of posts ... Bourbon Girl and I had our first date here and things have turned out incredibly well for us. Was it the great food, drink, and service or just my magnetic charm and purple velvet ensemble combined with her come-hither eyes and leather boots? One may never know.

OMG - it was when you let me eat all of the Machego

Ah, how generous of me to let you have all the Manchego, but you know you have me wrapped around your leather boots. Plus I got to eat all the Cabrales. And there is a bit of a surprise homage to you in Thursday's Funtastic post.

Bourbon Girl! You're a muse!!!

Bourbon Girl! You're a muse!!!

Not after that post about leering at the smelly Russian boys making her sandiwches just down the street from me. Muse-ship cancelled! Homage stripped and stomped upon. Puh.

I take that back. You're still my muse. As you will see in tomorrow's funtastic post (already done yesterday), EL is either wise or psychic and predicted this fiery exchange. Your puppy will not be sent "upstate".

I thought Bourbon Girl had blunted Owlio's edge, what with the lack of a funchasm last week and all this harmony, but now I see Scott and Zelda and really hitting their stride. God help us all.

Scott and Zelda? I was thinking more along the lines of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf"!

So sorry OMG. It was the bourbon talking. You know this girl swoons only for your blue blue eyes and purple velvet corduroy swooshness. Cheese plate later?

I'm beginning to think that Bourbon Girl is just another manifestation of Owl Meat Jerky.

VP and Dhalink, great imagery!

Gosseyn - I think Bourbon Girl is just another manifestation of John McIntyre (heads up, Bucky!)

LJ and Gosseyn - Here's something I was thinking about the other day, while I was reading D@L and having another scotch:

What if all of OMG's personalities are real and the rest of us are imaginary? How do we know, for sure, which is which?

I'm beginning to think that Bourbon Girl is just another manifestation of Owl Meat Jerky.

ewwww.

But dude, purple velvet corduroy?

There was a Southern MD band back in the day called Corduroy Swish. I worked with a guy in the band and he said the name came from the sound fat people made when wearing corduroy pants and walking.

'I think therefore I am.' So, since I think I am, I must be; imagine that.

Rob in FL - I think everyone who wears corduroy makes that sound. When I was a child growing up in Minnesota in the 70s, it was the sweet symphony sound of Fall in the elementary school corridors.

On behalf of the girls, we think, and just had happy hour together; therefore, we are. (except Cheese and Lemon, who didn't show, you mold and tart!).

Most definitely, none of us are John McIntyre! (though we love that he is a gentleman - go bowtie!)

LJ - I cannot possibly be JMc or vice versa. I would never waste good bourbon making a cocktail with it.

I'm beginning to think that Bourbon Girl is just another manifestation of Owl Meat Jerky.
ewwww.

Not so subtle.

Bourbon Girl is the real deal and not some Jerky manifestation. And stop with the ewwww. We are real people with sort of real feelings.

Trust me, the Scott/Zelda, George/Martha (VWolfe) comparisons are funny, but in real life we are quite more normal than our superhero blog personae.

I wasn't invited. :(

Really, how could leave out Lemon Girl, she's just a little tart.

Owl, I didn't mean to offend and apologize if I did.

the ewww was meant that it would be uncool for a guy to impersonate a girl on here.

I am sure you are quite normal people.

PCB, no offense taken, yes it would be ewwww for me to make up a fake girlfriend for myself. This whole deal of having an online persona and a real one and mixing that with another person's situation is genuinely confusing for us sometimes. Very 21th Century.

These identity issues are weird.

Quite normal people? Oh, come on, you know that's not true.

Owl,
I never realized the uniqueness of your relationship with Bourbon Girl, since you are Owl and BG here and two real people in real life. I'm sure it has some cool/funny moments at times as well.

You're right, very 21st Century.

Do you see a great storyline for a movie here?

Rob asked: Do you see a great storyline for a movie here?

Calling Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks ... no, wait ...

I liked the post, The place is amazing, it is not over price all, it have a nice drinks, very inviting

Call Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks only if your want them butchered and fed to our hyenas.

Uh, well, a genuine in person relationship betwen me and BG has only been going on for about a month, but the seeds were sown last February. It's all very multidimensional. Set phasers to Awesome.
