If you're thinking of heading for DC, don't

We just got back from taking my mother-in-law out to dinner in Washington, and on the way back saw that something major had happened to close down I-95 south. There were large numbers of fire trucks and police cars. No traffic was getting through, and it had been long enough that the cars at the front of the backup had simply turned off their engines and lights. It was eerie to see so many cars parked on 95 in the dark.

...and traffic reports, as well, from The Only Blog You'll Ever Need.

Yes, and I posted it 30 minutes before the Sun's traffic page had it. Of course, it was Saturday night, and other people who work for the paper have a life. EL

When I saw the heading, I thought you were going to warn the anti-drumming contingency to stay away because of the weekend drumming for world peace by the Washington monument. ;-)

So, what happened?

I'm relieved. I've been considering going down to DC on election day, since we aren't working. Hit some museums, wander the National Gardens, that kind of thing. My first thought was that something horrible had happened to either the MARC or the B30.

Lissa -- unfortunately, there was a fatal accident involving two motorcycles, as per this Sun story.

Yikes. Thanks, hmpstd and Hal. As a former (and perhaps to be future) biker, that is sad. One is quite exposed on a bike.

There are only two kinds of bikers: those that have crashed and those that are going to. You just hope that when it's your turn you can walk--crawl--away.

True dat, Bucky.

Seems the further from town I go
The more I hate this place
He's got leather and big tattoos,
And scars all over his face

And I wonder if he ever has cried
Cause he couldn't get a date for the prom

He's got his arms around every man's dream
And crumbs in his beard from the seafood special
Oh can't you see my world is falling apart?
Baby please, leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart

Now his friend leans over and says
Looks like we got us a f**
I wonder if that guy's read one word
That wasn't in a porno mag

And I wonder if he ever has cried
Cause his kitten got run over and died

Baby please leave the biker
Leave the biker, break his heart

I think that we should have a bake sale so that we can buy Elizabeth her own helicopter.
