Corks reopens...and it's not the same

Corks1.jpg

I don't usually like to scoop myself, but Monica's photos of the newly reinvented Corks in Federal Hill are so beautiful I can't resist using a couple. I can't use them without explaining that after two months, Jerry Pellegrino's restaurant has finally reopened. Patrick Sutton Associates did the extensive renovations.

Corks has become more casual and cheese-centric, with five upscale grilled cheese sandwiches and three fondues on the menu. The selection of cheeses for the cheese plates sounds good, too.

Mmmm...cheese.

Anyway, look for my Table Talk column next Wednesday for more details.

I've had the Cowgirls' Creamery cheeses on their menu, and they are very nice.

Doesn't look like the kind of place I'd decide to go, but I'd let myself be dragged.

Monica is an amazing photographer!

So more casual than old Corks, but what about the wine list and sommeliers?

I didn't ask about the sommeliers, but Pellegrino says it's still the all-American wine list. EL

The reinvention of corks is fabulous... the menu offers a variety of options; from frisee salad w/lardons and a poached egg to a braised pork belly blt (yum!) to fondue (we added bison meat balls and sauteed mushrooms w/ours, (a treat)... the menu has variety and lots to chose from... the wine list is both full and exciting... filled w/exceptional choices to fit anyone's fancy and price point... the sommeliers definately present and has put together an exceptional list of wines, so some things haven't changed... corks is definately a place that i will frequent rather then make a destination for special occations.

Corks Wine List is now the Americas (North and South America) featuring wines from California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Chile and Argentina. I (Chris Coker) am still the wine director at Corks and am very proud of each wine currently on my 100 bottle list. I look forward to everyone's visit. Thanks!
