Balloons!!! Party hats!!! Break out the champagne!!!
Welcome to the Commenting Hall of Fame, LEC. You have just posted our 20,000th comment, a figure I'm more proud of than any other statistic involving Dining@Large.
There is only so much I have to say about restaurants, food in general and life that can be of interest to anyone else but my immediate family. And not so much even to them after awhile. It's the variety of voices and opinions that continues to make this blog interesting. (Especially to me.)
Let's see what wonderful prizes our crack marketing manager Anne Burger (or whatever her new title is; she's been promoted) has for our winner.
Anne? ...
If you're wondering about our previous winners in the Commenting Hall of Fame, they are:
* The 1,000th comment: Hal Laurent (not yet the Voice of Reason). He said:
I was just mentioning this discussion to my wife, and she said that a place that she really misses is the old Harvey House on Charles St.
* The 3,000th comment: Owl Meat Gravy, who was right in character when he said:
Screaming Yello Zonkers Remember the great Quisp versus Quake war of the early 70s? It all turned ugly when they showed graphic photos of Quisp's POW camps.
* The 10,000 comment: e, who posted these immortal words:
Matt- You can find the dates/locations of area markets here: http://www.mda.state.md.us/md_products/farmers_market_dir.php
but never made an appearance on this blog again.
And here is LEC's winning comment:
I second third and forth the Lovin Spoonful's Summer in the City. Every time I hear it, it instantly brings back memories the great times I had in the summers of late sixties.
Those who remember WCAO as "the" Baltimore radio station of the sixties might find this streaming radio station of interest. The letters are similar in Rhythm, WDJO and when they play their jingles it sounds so similar. http://www.oldies1160.com/

On behalf of the Girl Squad (except Cheese Girl, who could not be reached prior to publication), congrats EL! Yay 20k!
oh, and you too, LEC - cheers!

Congrats, Elizabeth and LEC - 20,000 comments...who'd a thunk it so fast?
Elizabeth, pay close attention: you CAN'T retire...EVER! What the hell will we do for amusement without you!?

On to the third myriad and beyond!

Oh ye, oh ye! Congrats to all. This is quite an accomplishment, I think that I have read every one of those 20000 posts.

Congratulations, LEC!
Let's see what kind of awesome prize might be available from baltimoresun.com's Schwag Central.
Unless, of course, the D@L regulars want to offer some personal prize recommendations... ?

I'm with Dottie, don't retire EL! I bet your blog gets more hits than any of the new stories!

AnneB--how about a gift certificate to Birches for LEC and 27 close friends?
Posted by: Dahlink | September 3, 2008 5:58 AM
No, it would have to be 28 separate gift certificates to Birches. All for different dollar amounts.
Posted by: Lissa | September 3, 2008 7:57 AM
How about a free subscription to "b"?

I have it on good authority that e continues to be a devotee of D@L. Just a quiet one.

Wow, this blog went from 10,000 to 20,000 really fast!
Congrats to EL and all the Sandboxers! This is the best part of the entire Sun site.
Like RtSO coined, Its The Only Blog You'll Ever Need!
Posted by: Rob in PCB FL | September 3, 2008 1:13 PM
There's a Sun site?
Posted by: OMG | September 3, 2008 2:15 PM
OK, Schwag Central turned out to be full of expired movie passes, baseball t-shirts with a SunSpot.net logo and an ill-advised purchase of cigarette lighters.
Instead, LEC will receive a $100 gift certificate to dine at any one of the Restaurant Association of Maryland's participating establishments, and believe me, there are plenty.
Congrats again.

So, LEC, when and where is the party you are hosting for us all?
Posted by: Dahlink | September 3, 2008 2:52 PM
BG -- My apologies for being unreachable; I was busy taking inventory in my underground cheese cellar, and I don't get cell phone reception down there.
Congrats, EL.

Ms. Burger... (tough to find a more appropriate name for a food blog)... are you the Manager of Crack Marketing? I didn't think people needed any help selling the stuff, let alone formalizing the position :)
Posted by: GregBWorking | September 3, 2008 4:03 PM
AnneB, Aside from marketing crack, you also have a "schwag" stash? With all your rock profits, I would guess you'd have more primo weed, maybe you mean swag, maybe not.
CG, underground cheese cellar? You're like a super hero. You're my favorite again. Have you ever been to Fromage.Com? It's like cheese porn. Unpasteurized French cow, goat and sheep's milk cheese. Ah, heaven. I ordered from them once. It was fromagerific. The have a cheese library. We should really talk about cheese more on this blog.

Schwag? Honey, a winner deserves Chronic.

OMG -- Cheese porn. Now there's a phrase you don't see very often. And nothing's finer than a Cheese Library.
Right now I'm enjoying a bit of Old Chatham, a creamy, roquefort style artisnal Amercan blue. It's going quite nicely with cabernet. ( I suppose a good tawny port would work as well, but I tend to save that for the dead of winter.)
Posted by: Cheese Girl | September 3, 2008 7:18 PM
Oh Cheese Girl you are the real deal. How disappointed I would be if you were enjoying some pepper jack with Diet Mr. Pibb. My most memorable literary cheese experience was when I was in college (in the 1930s) and I read a story by Samuel Beckett called "Dante and the Lobster". I don't remember anything about the story except it's vivid description of gorgonzola cheese. To this day it is one of my faves. Melt a bit into a tomato or cream sauce and the world comes alive.

How cool! Congrats EL on the 20,000.
Sorry to be so slow in responding but we spent the day yesterday driving from N. KY to MD in order to attend the wedding of a friend on Saturday. Sunday we're off to N.VA to see our sons new home and then back to KY on Monday.
So not much time to consider the use of the GC but a quick check of the resteraunt list

Hey, I threw a couple more comments on the blog somewhere! And I'm still reading, just not commenting. Busy-ness abounds elsewhere, and therefore the blog-time suffers.
I did have an excellent dinner a couple of weeks ago with the gift certificates (finally). Review forthcoming, I promise.
Great! My remark wasn't a criticism, just encouragement. :-) EL
