75 Top 10s and counting...

QuietRelaxing.jpg

Night before last as I lay awake in my bed staring up at the darkened ceiling, it occurred to me I had done 75 Top 10s. OK, feel free to correct me if you want to go back and count, but you get my drift.

Then it occurred to me I needed to come up with No. 76 right away or I would be writing it on Labor Day, not the best day to get in touch with restaurants.

My husband suggested Top 10 Foods for Labor Day, but I pointed out it was actually the day after Labor Day so it might seem kind of dated. Then he suggested -- and this is why I'm glad I married him -- going back and seeing what I did the day after LAST Labor Day. ...

However, when I checked, it turned out to be Top 10 Romantic Restaurants, which makes no sense. But it was a good Top 10, if I do say so myself.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from a friend who wanted a recommendation for a "quiet, relaxing" restaurant, "not too pricey." Well, I'd like one myself. And there has been so much interest in noise on this blog, I'm sure you'd like one, too.

The question is, can we come up with 10? If not, I may have to revisit crab houses, or some other Top 10 of your choice.

My partner and I found Tarks Grill to actually be very quiet and relaxing(and romantic), once we asked the mean seating Nazi if we could have a booth rather than sitting next to the loudest rowdiest bar I've ever seen (or heard).

No, no--not crab houses! Puhleeze, not that!

For quiet, romantic and relaxing, how about the Carlyle Club and Spice Company, for starters? Come on, people--save us from another crab house debate.

How about Top Ten Neighborhood Restaurants you can walk to where you can get a nice weeknight dinner you'd make yourself if you hadn't gotten home at 8 o'clock?

Quiet, relaxing, not too expensive - sounds like the Helmand.

Round and round, round and round

All through the town.

The wipers on the bus go "Swish, swish, swish,
Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish"

All through the town.

The horn on the bus goes "Beep, beep, beep
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep"

Top Ten Ennui.

I second the Carlyle Club for quiet and relaxing. I'm an atmosphere person and would love to hear some more suggestions!

VDP, did you have your chakras cleared or your chi balanced on your travels abroad? (Cough. Cough. Rehab.) Please Swami. tell us the meaning of this mysterious chant.

Mary Roby, what about those of us out in the 'burbs? The closest food-serving establishment to me is a Pizza Hut, and that is over 1/2 mile away on a non-sidewalked road. There is a chinese restaurant a few doors down from the Pizza Hut in the strip mall named Chopstixx (yes, doublecross). Of course I could go a bit further and get to the combined Blimpy/Dunkin Donuts. Of course my DW wouldn't be able to walk to any of them (see non-sidewalked road above). There are some reasons I still miss living in New York.

Pieeeeeerrrrreeee? Where aaaaare youuuuuuu?

Top 10 things you wish you hadn't eaten at the fair?

Cheese Girl is new. I see that Sam and Pierre still have a thing going on. Now Sam is inviting abuse from the mad Frenchman? (or is he French Canadian?) Let sleeping chiens lie.

Retired in Elkridge:
Try moving into the city. A lot of neighborhoods solve your problem. Sidewalks, too.

I would add the Ambassador to the list of quiet and relaxed. Do I remember that it is part of the same group as the Carlyle and Spice?? I know they are all within a couple of blocks. How interesting for a group to offer the same ambiance in the same neighborhood.

Yes, the same family owns the Ambassador, Spice Company and the Carlyle Club. I was hoping they'd take over Taste as well!

FHJ, I know. That's one of the things I miss about New York. Oh well, there's always Cucina Mia, where there's always a choice for dinner: Take it, or leave it.

Voodoo Pork - welcome back, man. Thanks for making me laugh out loud this morning. Really needed that one too.

I was hoping they'd take over Taste as well!

Has anyone been to Crush yet?
