The "talk back" feature

We just had a meeting about the blog posts like Top 10 that will be appearing in the print edition for those who don't read blogs; these will also have a "talk back" feature. I mentioned it in an earlier post.

At least now I know what the "talk back" feature is. It looks like with the list I'll also be including a comment or two of yours. (Not to worry. We won't be printing your misspellings.)

EL -- so long as you (and not that troglodyte who changed "less" to "fewer") are doing the comment triage, editing, and proofreading, I should think that the Sandbox has nothing to fear. ;-)

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to proofread. EL

I'm curious about how such potential broad exposure might (adversely) effect the blog. Will some people angle to write something that will be acceptable and bland enough for print? Will some of the cool kids act out more to avoid being selected? Riddle me that Heisenburg and Schroedinger cats.

Well, obviously if I want to attract people to the blog I don't dare use any of the regulars. It would only frighten them. EL

Not to veer too far off course, but I wanted to thank the Sandboxers who wish me well in the next few days with Fay approaching.

For those that might be interested, here is the latest map. I am on the 30 N Lat line, right at the top of the "M" in 8 AM Wed. So it looks like I'm okay for now.

and now back to your regularly scheduled blog.

Owl Meat in print. I can't wait! lol

Well, I think I qualify as a regular, but I don't think I'm frightening. I'm a pussycat.

Oh, after Homeland Security and NSA read a couple of OMG's posts, he'll be shipped off to the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

That's going to be one hell of a wait Regina! I prefer to stay in the shadows.

HUAC? I can't wait. Amanda Voodoopork is my lawyer.

I think we'll work our way up to Owl Meat. EL

"Talk back" to the blog = type witty comments in the little box and hit send.

"Talk back" to the print edition = ??? Clip a reply form, search for a pen, write something and mail it?

The talking back has already been done on the blog. Although this supposedly encourages people to come to the blog and add their two cents. Which is fine with me. EL

They do that in our local paper. Run a topic in a blog one day, then reprint it, with a few selected comments in the paper the next day. It's ok, but not nearly as much fun as the blog itself.

It's sort of like watching a movie by looking at a bunch of publicity stills.

Deft comment TBRS.

I assume this "talk back" feature is part of the Sun's reinvention. No offence to you, EL, but why don't the powers-that-be reinvent the Sun to be a NEWSpaper. There has been little improvement over editing and typos and I was amazed that no one from the OpEd department bothered to respond to my questioning of their math skills a couple of weeks ago. Since I can most of what I want to read from the Sun's web site, including D@L, I may cancel my print subscription if I consider the reinvention to be heinous.
