Next Sunday's review

SandersDesserts.jpgNext week I review an old favorite with a new owner, Sanders' Corner in Loch Raven.

The two best things about it have always been the breakfasts served until 1 p.m. every day and the fine outside seating on the covered porch overlooking the Loch Raven Reservoir area.

When I looked over the photos for the review, I realized I hadn't asked for one of the view. Luckily I had taken one from the porch when we ate there, so I'll post it below.

And look for my review in next Sunday's Arts & Life Today section.

When we were talking about restaurants with a water view, someone mentioned Saunders Corner. I don't think that you can see the water from there... at least not that I remember.

I loved going by there as a kid. We would bicycle out there on fishing trips from Hamilton and get ice cream or sodas on the way in or on the way out. Never caught any fish but still had fun.
Had one harrowing experience, we were flying down that hill on Satyr Hill Road and my front tire blew out. Luckily I didn't tumble a$$ over tin cup but it was a LONG walk back home. After we stopped at Sanders, of course.

When I was a kid (50's-early 60's), on beautiful evenings like tonight our family would drive to Sanders for ice cream, rather than "just" Murray's. At the time it was a little country store. A few years ago a group of us went to Sanders for dinner, and I was astonished to see how it had grown, and how extensive the menu was. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the view.

Rob in PCB FL reminded me of the "old" Satyr Hill Road. Once my brother and I went joy-riding in my mom's Buick, and he was going pretty fast. We flew over the drop and hit bottom like a box of rocks. We bounced a couple of times, my head hit the roof hard enough to to leave a knot, and he had to fight for a few seconds to regain control. Whew -- what a rush! Never did it again, tho.

Dottie,
My bike tire blew out right at the drop! This was in the early 70s and Sanders was still just a little country store.

ahh, memories.

I need to go back to Saunders Corner. The first time I ate there was a harrowing experience back in the late 90's. My then boyfriend and I were on his motorcycle and got caught in a tremendous thunderstorm while up at Loch Raven. We thought maybe it will blow over. If we can just get to Saunders Corner and wait it out. Unfortunately we got completely drenched trying to get to the restaurant. The poor hostess looked shocked but non plussed when we popped our heads in and asked if we could be served. She had hot chocolates on the table before we could ask and had grabbed some dry towels for us to attempt cleaning up with. Everyone was amazingly kind and helped fill us with a tasty hot meal before sending us back (very unfortunately) into the storm as it did not let up. We went back the next week and thanked everyone profusely.
