Baltimore is getting more like Paris all the time

blogitems%20003.jpg

Yesterday Gailor came down to The Sun to take me out to lunch before she left. We walked up to Sasha's on N. Charles and found it locked up. (That's Gailor taking the photo.)

The sign says it's Sascha's annual summer pause, but I didn't remember it from past years. And I don't remember so many Baltimore restaurants closing in August for vacation. We talked about a couple of others in an earlier post.

Some places, like Corks, see it as a good time to get renovations done. But some just see this week and next as a time for a well-deserved rest after Restaurant Week and during the slowest season of the year for eating places.

All that makes sense, but I still think more downtown restaurants are closing for vacation than used to. Is that just because of the economy? Anyway, if you want to tell people about others by posting below, please do.

EL, it does seem that way. Samos took a 2 week leave this year, and I seem to recall it used to be only one week.

Three... is closed this week for vacation, but we've also been told to expect some changes when they reopen. Drink specials, new items at better prices, etc... looking forward to it.

I love their portobello (how the heck do you spell that? portabella? portobella? aaaaugh!) pesto paninis, and I only wish they could have a permanent menu so I could eat them whenever I wanted.

Where did you go instead?

We once received an invitation to a colleague's "7th annual Preakness Party," which made us feel a bit odd since it was the first (and last) time we were ever invited ...

The end of last month we tried 3 separate places on a Monday night. Rub is always closed Mondays, but Thai Restaurant (Greenmount) and Ryan's Daughter should have been open and weren't. Thai was on vacation, but RD claimed "renovations." Something about floor refinishing.

That's right, matt hudock -- a floor refinishing job took place in July at Ryan's Daughter.

Joe Squared was closed until yesterday for renovations, but they are open now! That'd be great if we observed a more Paris/France-like schedule. We'd get more of a balance in rest, work and play...

I know Brickridge in Mount Airy and Pizza John's in Essex are both closed during the week of the 4th of July.

Pizza John's in Middle River shuts down for vacation every year. As far as I know they have done so for their entire existence.
