Wine Me Up

WineMeUpMy Westminster correspondent sent me this photo via his cell phone. This is the new Wine Me Up Wine Shoppe and Tavern.

It's kind of hard to imagine a tavern also calling itself a wine shoppe, or for that matter a wine shop calling itself a wine shoppe, but it's cute, isn't it?

That's Multimedia editor etc. John Lindner taking the photo in the picture.

This got me thinking maybe more wine bars are opening up in the burbs. When I did the Top Ten Wine Bars a while back...

...only a couple of them were outside the city. But now maybe if I did such a list I'd have a few more candidates. I just finished doing a Table Talk item for next week on the new Bliss Coffee and Wine Bar in Riverside (which is near Bel Air). And, of course, I shouldn't fail to mention the Carried Away Gourmet I discovered Tuesday, which has a wine bar Thursday and Friday nights.

Last November I said if I did the Top Ten Worst Wine Bars it would probably end up being the same list as the best, because I didn't think I could come up with more than 10 wine bars of any sort. I don't think that's true anymore.

By the way, if any of you has been to the Wine Me Up (and you thought drinking wine was a serious business), please give us a report on it below.

Wine Me Up! is the best! The atmosphere, quality of wine and lite fare are exceptional. The owners are friendly and the service impeccable. I suggest the Gollywobbler wine and goat cheese / tomato bruschetta.... it is an experience you won't soon forget.

According to the other daily Baltimore newspaper, VIN in Towson will soon be closing temporarily due to Towson Circle construction.

Notice the word temporarily is highlighted. Hmmm, anyone else heard anything about this ???

Speaking of Wine Bars. Metropolitan COffe House and Wine Bar (on the Top 10 list) had a fire last Sunday and will be closed for a while.

I heard some speculation that the Metropolitan fire may have been arson. Nobody goes there anymore because the service is so horrible.

Fire in an electrical box, happened about 3AM. It's still pretty full just the regulars quit going. Service has always been an issue since the day it opened. But as long as the house is full that was one issue that wasn't getting corrected.

are you and midnightsam collaborating on headlines?

I love the new Wine Me Up in Westminster! The atmosphere is warm, inviting and I love the artwork and decorative touches! The owners and staff are fun and really make you feel at home. The food is great and if you love wine, well, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't at least check it out for yourself. Ask the bartender for his recommendations - he's got a true palette!

My daughter and I visited Wine Me Up last Friday. Delightful.
Wines by bottle are priced a bit above retail and a $5 corkage fee, the proprietors were at pains to explain, covers overhead. But a bottle of wine is cheaper at WMU because they don't have the overhead of a full kitchen.
We picked a bottle WMU seemed to be proud of Rock and Vine, primarily a cab.
We added a cheese plate and an antipasta plate that worked very nicely with the wine. Made me look like the genius I wish I was.
We were lucky to get the last table the place, a corner at the window. Because the WMU is narrow, it helped us feel like we had the place to ourselves. Probably not the right location for a large group, but for intimate, there it is.
The proprietors, a couple "from the corporate world" were very helpful, though cast worried looks at me. I assumed it was the Hawaiian shirt and motorcycle helmet hairdo. (???)
Will we return? Can't wait.

WMU - one topic of conversation at the beauty shop today. Very positive vibe. Even those who hadn't been yet said they've heard all good about it. I suppose I'll get there soon although I thought that about Taste and ...
Anyway - good talk about this place!

I love Wine Me Up! I've been there three times and, in fact, I'm going again tonight with a friend. I agree that Gollywobbler is an awesome wine choice, as is the appetizer pizza. In fact, I can't say there's anything I don't like!
