Next Top Ten: Best happy hour food deals?

HappyHourFood.jpgSo far I haven't come up with a topic for next Tuesday's Top Ten that seems to appeal. I haven't even gotten much in the way of suggestions. Last week's post about next Tuesday's Top Ten had five comments.

I get more comments than that if I say, "Cauliflower. Discuss." However, one of them was LJ's referencing someone's "recent happy hour food idea."  I just can't find the comment she was referring to.

So, what about best happy hour food for next Tuesday's Top Ten? Or happy hour food deals? Any suggestions for the list?

How about Mahaffey's pub Tuesday-Friday (3-7) Saturday & Sunday (12-7) and Monday all day 3 10 oz. drafts of delicious microbrews for $4. Not to mention the daily food specials after 5.

Monday - $1 Mini Burger Night
Tuesday - $15 Steak Night - Great Steak!!
Wednesday - 30 cent wings (minimum order 10)

Enjoy.

It probably won't work as a top ten list, but it being high vacation time, why not ask folks for some suggestions about good meals in destination places. I'll be in the Adirondacks most of next week (close enough to Saratoga Springs) and then in Boston the week after. When my dad was in graduate school, Durgin Park was actually an affordable family spot. But I'd love to hear where people find satisfaction wherever they go.

Personally, I prefer cauliflower raw, with a good blue cheese dressing, to cooked.

Lovely veg, cauliflower. I prefer it to broccoli. It doesn't get the respect it deserves, especially when folks insist on drowning it in that horrible, fake orange cheese sauce that is first cousin to Kraft dinner.

McCormick & Schmick's has a $1,95 HH. You can get a 1/2lb burger or a quesadilla or tuna bites (and other tasty goodies for $1.95 each. There is a 2 drink minimum but soft drinks count!!

I have been waiting for this topic. Would really like a few places where the happy hour food is good and a bargain. I am an infrequent happy hour person and need some help.

I like that idea, MD Canon. I think every time I've been in Virginia, I've eaten at a chain restaurant because I don't know the local gems of which I'm sure there are plenty.

I know you've talked about Ra Sushi in the past. I've got to say that they have one of the best specials around. You can fill up on a good variety of sushi and drinks each weekday from 4-7 pm. More info here
Note: self link to a website that lists a lot of Baltimore area food and drink specials

M&S has really cheap happy hour food but their beer prices are outrageous and you don't get a discount at happy hour.

Arcos has the real deal - cheap tacos and cheap beer and margaritas, plus the best guac in town, by far, which is also specially priced for happy hour. The cool space is great too. Don't forget the visual element.

EL, you and Sessa should collaborate. You're looking for ten happy hour spots; he's looking for a place to hold a party celebrating his parole from the prison of anonymity.

There should be some overlap, it seems to me.

Believe me, I consult with Sam on everything that has to do with alcohol. EL

A topic after my own heart. Wine Market has one of the best deals around. A selection of 6 or so appetizers for $3 each, $2 premium beers, and a selection of 4 wines for $3. I think you can also get sangria for $3, but avoid that. It's a helluva deal though.

Have we done nightly specials lately? Seems like we did but I can't remember.

YEAH HAPPY HOUR!!! Love it - more suggestions please!

Tusk Lounge at Brass Elephant used to have a great happy hour...not sure if they still do because I haven't been there in a while.

@ Jon Parker: Why avoid the sangria at Wine Market? It is too strong? Not flavorful? Taste like swill?
I want to stop at that happy hour soon and love sangria so I need to know why I shouldn't order it.

Thursday at Yellow Dog has to be one of the best beer deals in town: a bucket of 4 beers for $5, bartender's choice. Among others, I've gotten bottles of Weyerbacher Merry Monks, Duvel, Unibroue Maudite, etc not to mention Lagunitas IPA, Guiness, Sierra Nevada, Bittburger, Ludwig Konig Weiss, and Clipper City beers. I'd say the average bucket probably costs $18-$20 normally.

Dave, are all 4 beers the same or is it a mixed bucket?

Miz Motormouth: It's been a while since I ordered it but I seem to remember that it was just vapid and not flavorful. I got two rounds that night and switched to wine after the sangria. You can get better elsewhere.

dave, do you know what time that happy hour starts? That sounds awesome.

M & S does have a beer "special" during their happy hour - they're $4...not exactly a bargain, but still discounted and the cheap food makes up for it.

@ Greg S: It's a mixed bucket. And if you order subsequent buckets, the bartender tries to avoid giving you beers that were in your previous bucket(s).

@ Jon Parker: The deal's on from open 'til close.

YD's half-off apps on Tuesdays isn't too bad either.

Mahaffey's Mon and Wed, Yellow Dog Tues and Thurs is a pretty cost effective way to fill a week of corner bar eating/drinking.

Rocket to V: Mon - Fri, 5-7pm: 3 “toddler” 8oz. Drafts for $3

One World: Wed, $2 draft beers all night long.

Don't forget about Morton's The Steakhouse and the Bar Bites menu offered at the Annapolis location and now also at the Baltimore location. From 5 - 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 - 11 p.m. on weeknights during "Power Hour," Bar Bites are only $5 a plate with smaller bites also offered - Oysters on the Half Shell $1.50 each and Colossal Shrimp Cocktail $2.75 each. The Bar Bites menu consists of Miniature Crab Cakes, Iceberg Wedge Bites, Petite Filet Mignon Sandwiches, Miniature Cheeseburgers, Blue Cheese French Fries, Jumbo Lump Crab, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, and Chicken Goujonettes. {Dislcaimer: I work with Morton's}

I have to know -- where can I get that drink in the picture?

Isn't that a great photo? It was taken at Ixia. EL
