Next Tuesday's Top Ten and vacation
Here it is almost the weekend, boys and girls, and Crab Week has been so exciting and full of events we haven't even talked about next week's Top Ten Tuesday. I would suggest we avoid seafood.
Also, I'll be away on vacation the following week, so I'm looking for an easy Top Ten for June 17 that I can do in advance. (And yes, I will have my handy dandy computer with me, so don't think that while the cat's away...)
Actually, I was going to write a whole separate post on what to do on my summer vacation -- with the blog, I mean -- but it seems appropriate here. I don't think I can get away with Second Helpings again. ...
Already Multimedia John is writing a Shallow Thought on Wednesday, and I bet I can prevail on Owl Meat to come up with a Mystery Game for that Thursday. Would any of you care to e-mail me a paragraph or two on a subject of your choosing that you think readers would like to talk about? (Restaurant-related, please.) That would make me very happy.
If I can't make you do the actual work for me, at least post ideas below.
Also, take a guess at what the restaurant pictured is.

Sorry, not restaurant related, exactly ...
A recipe to share with the Sandbox. It doesn't have to be Julia Child difficult, just something everyone who has had it likes it. This is not so much about showing-off, but just a good dish for friends. (BTW don't hold back that one special ingredient, okay?)

Is it City Café? The shape of the outdoor chairs looks familiar.
Good guess, but no. EL

There were a couple of interesting articles in the Towson Times in the past couple of days. Don’t know if we already touched these subjects

You never revealed the restaurant from the last mystery picture (in the Crabs and Beer discussion).
It was Reter's. The Hot Dog Barker got it really early, so I didn't want to say. Then I forgot to go back. EL

I like the idea of posting recipes. We could make do variations ("oh, in my family, we always put mustard in the potato salad"). There could be one thread per main ingredient.
Sorry, can't think of anything restaurant related I could write about that would be of interest to anyone.

Donna's?
I may have misled you earlier when I said the City Cafe was a good guess. It's not in the city. EL

Where's the destination this time?
I'm meeting my brothers in Tennessee. I blogged about it extensively last July (the archives will take you to the entries if you're curious.) I don't know how much new there will be to tell. EL

How about summer foods (as either a T3 or topic)?
Sounds good to me. EL

I think it's Linwoods.

How about we tread on Sessa's turf a little bit - happy hour places with good snacks?

I remembered that you were in TN last year but thought you might go someplace else. Never realized there were archives here but after reviewing I see you were in western TN.
When we go south to Athens, GA on I-75, we get off the interstate between Knoxville and Chattanooga and go 5 miles east to Athens, TN, to the Mayfield Dairy http://www.mayfielddairy.com/
What a great wayside stop! It's a real ice cream place where you can take tours of the plant, use the great "facilities", get a great cone, and sit on the shadded porch in a rocker and survey the garden, sculpture, people, and relax for a bit.
When we were there in May a single scoop, ( equal to triple scoop in most places) was $1.50. Extra nice people too.
If you pass this way, try it, you'll be glad you did.

You should definately stop at the Ridgewood BBQ between Bristol and Johnson City.
Another option for the ride down is the Tavern in Abingdon, Virginia.

Yes, it's going to be HOT today, so let's go with best summer foods--nothing that requires much cooking.

How about the top ten places to buy candy in Baltimore! Easy, cheap, and loved by all ages, candy transcends all.
Greetings and Readings would be one of my chioces, as they have a lot of hard to find candies.
Wegmans has Basset Allsorts, another hard to find item.
Rite Aid today had an awful selection, prompting me to think of this catagory.

I am really tired of factory made donuts. How a top ten of mom and pop donut shops where they cook the donuts in the building where they sell them.
Are there 10? EL

Anon - have you tried the new-ish Rock Candy on Harford Rd in Lauraville?

EL,
That's what I am trying to find out. I'm using your Starbucks analogy that having a Starbucks open leads to locally owned coffee shops everywhere. I am hoping the same thing applies to Dunkin Donuts. In the Owings MIlls area that doesn't seem to be the case.
I think the Starbucks Effect only worked before people got in the habit of buying expensive coffee drinks. But you have a good point about the doughnuts. I might not be able to make a Top 10 out of it (because I don't know that many), but it's worth a separate entry to see what people come up with. EL

How about Top Ten Baked Goods places. Prompted by my recent frustration with Daily Grind in Fells Point, which has taken to wrapping everything individually. That didn't help the berry scone last week. Where to get decent scones and muffins in the morning?

It's Tark's Grille

Speaking of donuts, there is a shop down here called Spudnuts (I think its a chain headquartered in Seattle) that makes theirs using potato flour. They are really good!!
my folks are in town and loving it so much they might move here!

Dahlink's comment under the Sunday's market visit triggered a thought:
As summer hits us in the face, roadside vegetable vendors will start appearing. There's usually one on Ruxton Road, just off 83 north; one near the Cockeysville library, Dahlink mentioned one on Joppa Road. How about a geographical listing of those the Sandbox likes? For instance, if I'm driving home through Howard County I don't know where there might be a truck. Same if I'm coming down from Belair. Most of us know of one or two in our area, but what if you're not in your area and its going to be too late to get corn in your home range?

Robert--the heat must be getting to me. I meant the one on Ruxton Road off 83 north. Sorry!

Speaking of Donuts, how about "The Donut Shack" in Severna Park on Ritchie Highway. Very friendly baker and all items are made in the back room. My personal favorite is the Twist Stick or its round variation the Dutch Crumb. very tasty crumb topping on a very good cake type donut.
