Dogwood is closed -- but just for vacation

DogwoodClosed.jpg

Not to worry. Dogwood in Hampden is closed, but only this week for a summer holiday.

When it reopens on July 7 for lunch, it will have a new summer menu, a redesigned Web site and some new specials at the Dogwood Bar.

For a restaurant to take a vacation seems so Parisian to me. I'm surprised more places don't close in the summer temporarily for the needed R & R, but I guess in this economy it would be an iffy thing to do. At least I don't know of any others around here that go on summer vacation.

Micheal's on Eastern Avenue and Samos have done 3-4 week holidays in past years. You arrive and there is a sign on the door. Bummer.

Iggie's is on vacation this week too.

If I can tie 2 posts together {I could finally get off this island!}; no seriously, I have never been to the OGrille, and I am sure never will, not because of the incident, just because I never feel totally comfortable being fawned over in a 4-star restaurant/B&B etcetc. I guess I'm a bit of a bohemian. But I have been to the Dogwood with my sexier half many times. Why? The food is good, and the service is always casual and yet friendly & competent all at once.
I understand the concept of the "big date" {anniversary, 49th birthday, whatever}, but I don't get the idea of "this is really special, so let's spend ridiculous amounts of money and hope the waitstaff doesn't condescend too much".
Besides, any time I am out with my darling is special, whether shooting pool, or pooling our resources.
{People, are you writing these down?
It's Gold Jerry, Gold!}.

Major points to dave the suave.

Going from the sublime to the ridiculous - Pepe's on Falls Road closes for summer vacation.

Jack's Bistro is one of those that's closed down for the week, as well. A time for the whole staff to recharge the batteries.

I believe that Salt is closed this week, too.
