Tomorrow's Top Ten Tuesday

BreakfastPlaces1.jpg

In case you weren't reading the blog over the weekend (and if you weren't, please don't tell me), I mentioned that I was in breakfast hell during the trip. In honor of that I planned to do tomorrow's Top Ten Tuesday on places to have breakfast, not brunch, unless anyone had a better idea.

Nobody seemed to object, and in fact I got a couple of suggestions, so that's what we'll do. Please post more suggestions below (and while you're at it, tell us what you like to have when you eat breakfast there).

Kiss Cafe in Canton: steak.
Morning Edition in Butcher's Hill: most extensive b-fast menu, but slow slow service

French Toast at the Blue Moon Cafe on Aliceanna Street.

blue moon-scones are to die 4
cafe hon
metropolitan cafe
diner on eastern and kane??- good banana pancakes

can't believe I'm the first to mention Pete's Grill ... it's literally the breakfast of champions, right? :]

That photo of the former Miss Shirley's location has me craving The Shore Thing Omelet with a side of Fried Green Tomatoes. And, the Spicy Shirley is the city's best Bloody Mary, hand down!

Morning Edition in Butcher's Hill

Make sure you get there early, or it will be lunch by the time you get your breakfast. The service there is downright glacial.

I agree with Jeffrey. I was at Blue Moon recently and one of the specials of the day...Cocoa Pebbles encrusted french toast with whipped cream and berries..... AMAZING!

For future consideration (or if it's already been done, please point me toward the discussion):

My kids are older now, and I think they are ready to move up to better restaurants on special occasions (Birthdays, anniversaries, etc). So how about the top ten places to take the family on special occasions?

I'll throw it out there - Jimmy's in Fell's Point. Sure it's a greasy spoon, but it's some tasty grease! My wife and I always get the French Toast, 2 egg and choice of meat combo.

Miss Shirley's. The crab eggs benedict is fantastic.

I'm also a fan of the huevos montulenos at Golden West and the French toast.

Lox, onion and eggs at Suburban House in Pikesville. Or, Corned beef/pastrami and eggs there. And, of course the reliable bagel, nova and cream cheese. These things they do so well!

For a chain (although there are only two in Maryland: Pikesville and Rockville) it isn't bad. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, and they do it pretty well. They offer free coffee in the waiting area, which is a nice touch. Good selections on the menu, and they give little bowls of fruit with some of the choices.

Jimmy's in Fells Point..

I get the Waffle and get a side of bacon and grits to go with it. Oh btw.. I don't get the fruit topping or whip type waffle its a full plate of WAFFLE in all its glories.

ALSO

Morning Edition

However not only is the glacial slow, getting a host to get to you is ridiculous. I'll have been waiting to get seated when the host will come up and ask the people who arrived after me how many they have and all that while we haven't been asked at all.

However if you choose to endure the service and seating ordeals, I recomend the savory french toast, rye bread done french toast style with tons of cheese and veggies. DELICIOUS.

Joel--how old are are these kids? We need more data.

Rallo's... it's where the elite meet to eat (and then you smirk).

And don't even get me started on Morning Edition. Hatefully slow and vague service. Not worth the wait or aggrivation.

Rallo's... it's where the elite meet to eat (and then you smirk).

We went to Rallo's for breakfast once. We obviously weren't from around there, 'cause they treated us as if we were partially invisible. I got the impression it would be a great place if you were a trusted regular.

Hal, sweetie! They treat everyone like that. It's a part of their charm (another smirk).

While the oldest is 19, the youngest is now 13. Over the years we have moved up from places like Olive Garden (My wife likes it; I detest it), to Bonefish and McCormick & Schmick's. I'm looking for something "nicer/fancier, but that they will appreciate/enjoy.

Morning Edition is not in Butcher's Hill. It is across the street in Patterson Place.

OK, I'll correct it when I get in Monday and can look at The Sun's neighborhood map so I won't have to correct the correction. Thanks. EL
