Pizza delivery

DeliveryPizza.jpg

I can't remember whether Rosebud posted this as a comment or sent me an e-mail, but I saved it because I thought it would be a good topic for discussion. This is NOT the place to tell us about your favorite pizzeria. Today's topic is pizza delivery, and whether you've found any delivery pizza that's edible.

Final Four weekend, baby. ...

We got a flyer on our door for Mickey's Pizza on Belair Road a few months ago and decided to try the place for delivery.  We've called them again several times since.

The pizza arrived piping hot (we're about 4 miles west of them along Frankford/Belevedere and it was COLD outside), so we were impressed from the start.  I thought the crust was really good and really held its own with the many toppings my hubby ordered.  I hate a soggy crust and was surprised that this crust was crispy without being hard.

I also liked their take on one of my most beloved comfort foods - hot roast beef sandwich with french fries all covered in gravy.  On a cold, dreary night, this really hit the spot, especially since it was loaded with beef.

So, our new favorite pizza that also delivers to our house is now Mickey's.

Its all about the pizza.

If you would happily eat it at the pizzeria, it might still be good when delivered.

If you wouldn't eat it when its fresh, it ain't gonna improve when delivered.

The places where I enjoy the pizza don't deliver.

But if I'm going to take delivery to my residence, I'm not expecting anything spectacular.

Typically, I never order delivery.

We live less than a mile from the local Domino's (which is my wife's favorite) but they refuse to deliver to our street. Their zone literally stops the street before ours. There is no Domino's that covers out street. When we call to order for take-out and explain this to the staff they are incredulous every time, then they look us up in their computer and go "ooohh, you're right, we don't deliver to you." My question is: who decides the zoning for Domino's and how hard is it to go literally one more street? I understand that there have to limits, but seriously.

We used to order from Domino's fairly frequently when we had teenaged boys in the house, but the last time our son was home from college and we ordered from them for old time's sake, what we got was pretty pathetic and the price had gone up quite a bit. I have to reprogram my speed dial.

We used to order from Seasons Pizza, but they stopped delivering to our address sometime last year.
We just called up one day and they said they no longer delivered in our area. I'm not too unhappy about it since they were staring to get sloppy about our orders, anyway.

We've found Vocelli's to be reasonable- not the best tasting pizza I've ever had but it always arrives within 20 minutes of placing the order, it's always hot, and the quality is good. It's decent enough for us when we're not making our own for pizza night.

If only Maryland had a Pudge Brothers...

This is really awful foodie reasoning, but sometimes we settle for Papa John's because we can order on-line and not have to talk to anyone at the store. My time is too valuable to be placed on hold for a pizza, and so I compromise quality for it.

In addition, we used to find that when we gave our address on the phone, they would say we were out of the delivery area, but when we place it on-line, they seem to miraculously be able to deliver. Go figure. Might be worth Matt checking out with Dominos...

I have to be in the mood for Domino's or Pizza Hut. I hate Papa Johns. As far as local places, Dominick's (Perry Hall/Parkville area) is the best, followed by Maria D's.

My fave pizza delivery place is Chiofalo's on Edmondson Ave. And, the reason why I love it is the delivery; not the pizza. Although the pizza doesn't knock my socks off, sometimes it's worth it to order given the simple fact that it is delivered in 20 min., is always hot so the cheese remains gooey, and they're always great with the dogs (hey, sometimes it's the little things). When my sister-in-law and her husband come into town, they like the crab cakes from Chiofalo's so that generally gives us another excuse to place an order.

We like Zella's better than any other delivery we've tried. They deliver to south Baltimore, and even though they tell you it will take 45-60 minutes, it usually doesn't.

In our house we only order delivery from Tutti Gusti. When we first moved to Baltimore we ordered from Papa John's at the corner of Eastern and Eaton Street. When the girl taking the order took down our address, she asked me where Eaton Street was because she was not sure they delivered to it. I told her to go out the front door of the store and look to the right and she would see she worked on the corner of Eaton Street.

I like Pepe's (6081 Falls Rd). They have a salty sauce, which is key for me. The best part is they deliver to Meadowbrook pool. In the summer, when I take my son swimming after work, I don't have to worry about packing a dinner.

Matt - Seinfeld had an episode that mirrored your problem with Domino's. It seems Elaine was obsessed with a certain fish dish from a Chinese restaurant. But the restaurant would deliver to her apartment because it was across the street from the end of their delivery area. So she gave the address from across the street and waited outside for the delivery - which was taken back when the boy saw she couldn't get into the building.

Why does it seem like there are no Pizza Hut's inside the city limits???

Thankfully, JoeSquared delivers a great pizza.

Sorry for the off-thread comment, because they don't deliver, but Michelle's post about ordering online reminded me Chipotle's awesome Web-based interface for placing orders for pick-up. If I remember correctly, you can even split the check to avoid issues with making change or if you don't have cash.

Oops, that'll teach me to proof read before I click "post." I meant to write that the restaurant on Seinfeld would NOT deliver to Elaine because she was across the street from the cut-off line.

Because there aren't any (Pizza Huts) inside the city limits! Amazing but true. There's one on Belair Rd, but it's just over the line in Overlea.

Joe Squared is great, but I don't think they deliver to my area...S'ghetti Eddie's on Cold Spring is my current favorite. I enjoy the "Colors of Italy" and "Pacifica" pies. I don't recommend the Chicken Parm pizza.

S'ghetti Eddie's is pretty good, but I usually find myself going for their cheesesteak instead. Why don't more places around here offer broccoli rabe as a topping choice.

RoCK - for the same reason they don't offer eggplant as a topping. Most people would say "gack" and the few of us who wouldn't don't merit keeping such exotic fare on hand. I'm with you all the way, though.

S'ghetti Eddie has the real high quality ingredients that really make the difference in their food.

Robert of Cross Keys---want the best of a S'ghetti Eddie's pie and a cheesesteak? Order the Italian Cheesesteak---grilled peppers, onions & mushrooms with
marinara sauce & mozzarella---add hots. And, off the delivery track, they now have soft serve ice cream and milkshakes.

We live in Arcadia (Lauraville) and usually order from Cosmo's, on Harford Road. It's good pizza, but sometimes on a busy weekend night the pizza arrives slightly undercooked. I'll have to try Mickey's.

Betsy, if you do try Mickey's, let me know what you think.
In our last order, Hubby got pizza and I had a surprisingly good chicken korma with really nice naan and a yummy mango lassi.

I found this on allmenus.com.

In Joppatowne, we order online from Domino's in Edgewood on Rt 40. They are great. Can even track their progress online. Like that I can order extra sauce and less cheese.... Delivery can take up to an hour which is after completeing order. But it still is hot and crust is perfect...

I checked out the Mickeys website and can only say that if I lived in the area I would have to try them.....Indian and pizza in one delivery would make them my number one go to place.
