What's happening withTimothy Dean Bistro?

In case you missed Jay's comment under Girls' Night Out yesterday, he brought it to our attention that there was an ad in the paper for an auction March 25 of the Timothy Dean Bistro property. Dahlink pointed out that the Fells Point restaurant was no longer listed on Open Table.

I called last night at around 10:30 p.m., and it was crazy loud. I asked the woman who answered how long they would be open (meaning in business), and she said, "Eleven."

I figured I wasn't going to get anywhere with that and decided to try to reach Dean on Monday. Stay tuned.

The advert reads like they are selling the building, not the restaurant. Do Timothy Dean Bistro may not be affected, or involved.

That's a good point. I'll find out today, I hope.

RtSO - that's exactly what I was thinking. It certainly reads as though the building (and not the restaurant) is for sale.

Of course, in this business, one never knows for sure. They could be crazy busy today and moved out and bankrupt by the 25th.

It wouldnt surprise me if they were going out of business- the food was great but the service was VERY slow.

Dang. I was going to say: Good riddance.

I agree, Kristen. T.D.'s defintely disappointed in the service department when I went there for restaurant week last year. Slooow and kept getting looks of disdain every time I asked for something. It wasn't like I was going to skimp on the tip just because I was getting a deal.

Duffy-- I know the look you are talking about! It makes me flash back to the time I, (GASP!) asked for more water.

Maybe restaurant management isn't TD's thing, but he had some great food- I hope he reappears in someone else's kitchen.

The building is for sale by the bank but the building is/was owned under another biz name by TD and his wife that died last year. So there is the possibility that some one who purchases the building at auction will still have TD as a tenant . ...The restaurant is still "open" but it has become a rather loud bar with hardly any one in the dining room. In my opinion, very unfortunate because he is one of the most talented chefs in the region & maybe beyond (and I eat out almost every night in various cities). If you can stand mediocre service and a loud bar close to the tables, you could try the food w/out a wait for a table or sit at the bar and ignore the bar guests. In another post on this site, supposedly TD says he is refinancing before the auction date & he is a hustling/surviving type so he might make that happen in time. ... Hopefully his ego is not too big where he can't work in another kitchen--he should stick to cooking.
