Things I'm working on
As he mentioned in a post, Midnight Sun Sam shot these photos for me the day it was 71 degrees and sunny. In other words, he used me as an excuse to get out of the office.
That's OK. He brought me a menu from the Parthenon Diner at 8 Park Ave. (pictured). It's open 24/7.
Then I've been talking to management at Baltimore Pho in the Hollins Market area and Saute Restaurant in Canton, which are both now open. More details in my next couple of Table Talk columns. ...
As you can see from the photo below, work on Joss Cafe (the Baltimore branch of the Annapolis sushi place) is proceeding. It will take up two floors of the building, with apartments above.
The Catonsville Gourmet Market & Fine Foods at 829 Frederick Road is scheduled to open next month. (It will be a seafood restaurant as well as a store.)
And then I got this interesting e-mail. Anybody know anything about it? Take a look at the Web site.

I have some friends who live in Pigtown and they frequent Shahrazad on Washington Blvd. It use to be a coffeehouse and something else before that. Good comfort food so they say and I've never been. A friend even made the owner create her own menu and its available for every customer! There's another place called Evelyn's on the same street across Shahrazad but friends prefer the latter.

They're right in my 'hood. I've eaten there a few times and the food's good. It's just not the type of food that I eat a lot. It's a lovely restaurant and they're great about letting the neighbourhood have meetings/parties there.

Funny, I just went to the Parthenon Diner for lunch today. I come to check the blog and there's a picture. Coincidence? Should I be concerned?
As for the Parthenon, the menu is the prototypical diner menu. Gyros, souvlaki and Greek Salad so as to not run afoul of the Greek diner owner contractual obligations. Burgers, salads, deli sandwiches. The menu was non-descript. So was the food.

Catonsville Gourmet Market is OPEN!
The market is open today, the restaurant is open this weekend.
An acquaintance of mine is the mother/mother-in-law of the owners, and we have been following their progress.
Excellent. Thanks so much for the intel.

Here's to hoping that Parthenon Diner has a new batch of waitstaff working there. Before it rebranded, we had a business lunch there and the ponytailed gentleman who was our waiter took every opportunity possible refer to one of our diner's meals as a wedgie instead of a veggie sandwich. "How would you like your wedgie?" ... "Oh, you'll like the wedgie." ... "Here is your wedgie!" ... It just kept going and going - enough so that I knew it was his version of comedy and not a speech impediment. I think I spotted him working at the new PF Changs after Park Ave Cafe closed for the rebirth as Parthenon. If you didn't get that guy, you would have ended up with even worse service from the other staff, unfortunately. The shrimp salad and house fried chips were decent there though! It's good to see places opening up in empty storefronts.

Although the waitress was very helpful, please be WEARY about using your credit card!!!!!!! After checking my account, I realized they charged me $500.00 bucks for a $30.00 meal! It was a shocker!! Use cash!! I had to call them and asked for a refund which was a inconvenience!
