Once again on the frontlines

MicrowavedPeeps.jpg

I'm walking past the multi-media department Friday, and what do I see but a plate of microwaved Peeps. I surreptitiously took a photo of it with my trusty Digital Elph and saved it for this morning to show you what you can do with your leftover Easter candy.

But what do I discover this morning but a home page feature on Peep art! (I guess, by the way, that Copy Desk Chief John weighed in on the whole What's the Singular of Peeps issue.)

Anyway, it looks suspiciously like our blog once again broke a major story. Coincidence? I think not.

Microwaved Peeps with toothpicks? Sounds like someone's discovered the Peep version of Maryland's state sport

I'm sorry, I think, since I brought this up under the eewww factor thread. I really didn't mean to start a trend, especially not a Peep related one. Yuck!

That picture loks like they could have been served as appetizers at a former friend's house, who was Peep-crazy.

For more Peeps fun and to see the winner of the Peeps Diorama Contest (Tomb of King Peepankhamen) go to www.washingtonpost.com/source Some of the runners up are good too.

Your camera certainly captured the fluorescence of the colors properly. I think you should send this photo to the company for an ad... Not the Peeps company... Peeps are disgusting enough on their own. They do not need to be microwaved and served as appetizers. Gross!

I had enough of this peeps....let's talk about something else.

Oh, I know how about SPAM??

Well, we did find that they taste pretty good on smores. the sugary coating provides and additional texture profile. My son through it they were pretty good when diced and mixed (along with walnut pieces) into chocolate ice cream, ala poor man's Rocky Road.

So, they're not all bad...

I can report that there were no peeps in my Easter Basket. (yes, I'm in my 30's, and mom still likes to make up an Easter Basket, but now my basket is a joint one that shared with the wife.)

For those interested, and I'm sure that is not many of you, this year's Easter's basket contained the following: smoked salmon, Pad Thai kits, tuna packets, some type of blueberry nut crunch, cheetos and a pair of Star of David earrings.

What, RoCK--no chocolate bunnies? That is NOT an Easter basket--sorry!

And can we expect you to wear the new earings to the meetup, RoCK?

Robert of Cross Keys you are not alone. I am almost 30 and still got an easter basket from my mother (my husband had one of his own from my mother). Though I had 2 peeps in my basket. They will be used for drunken amusement with the microwave some time in the near future. My mom also got me mini cadbury cream eggs. I don't think I like them as much as the big ones.

It's interesting that Easter baskets are carried over into adulthood. Our kids 20+s like them too. I keep dropping hints that I'd like the keys to a Ferrari F430 in mine. No peeps. Maybe some chicks.

Sure, no chocolate bunny makes it a crappy Easter basket, but you know what really makes it not an Easter basket? Star of David earrings! Maybe it should be called an Esther basket.

Not to brag or anything, but this is what I got for Easter/Equinox from the Hubby. It wasn't in a basket, though.

Rosebud, that is worthy of bragging rights. Wow. No offense to anyone else on here, but that blows Peeps and questionable fish-like substances out of the water. Do they taste as good as they look? I think I'm drooling on my keyboard... cleanup on aisle 5!

Dr. Cantaloupe, they are, indeed, every bit as good they look. At least the ones I've tried so far. I'm trying to be good and make them last.
I've eaten both pieces of the Bouquet de Fleurs, one of the Lemon Pepper, one of the Mint, and one of the Redwood. As you can see, my original decision to eat just one a day has not been working very well.
I feel like I've died and gone to chocolate heaven
