Commenting in triplicate

In the past week or so I've noticed that even old hands at this are posting their comments twice or even more. (Rosebud's about Robert's earring appeared in the queue four times this morning.) This hasn't happened before unless the poster is brand new. Do you notice something funky at your end? Is it some new bug in the software?

I've noticed that the blog software takes a long time lately after one clicks the Post button. It could be that it's taking long enough that people think they didn't click the button and they click it again.

As far as I could tell, I tried to post once and it seemed like everything locked up, so I tried one more time and it looked like went though like normal from this end. How 4 copies got there, I don't know.

Ditto.

It's true what Hal wrote: Only recently has it taken a longer time for the post to finish uploading (or whatever it does) after the user clicks "Post." My humble advice is to practice patience and do what I do - watch the movement of the blue progress bar; it starts slowly but then it moves.

Perhaps it's because D@L has gotten to be the hottest blog on the Sun's website!

I sincerely hope that's it and not that the blogware is getting worse and worse. EL

I also noticed a problem with posting.

It's been happening a lot on my blog too.

Must be something with the software.

Maybe it's because your cheap corporate overlords have every blog in their puppet show on one server somewhere in some corn-producing state. The output is posted on a Sun site, but they seem to be processed by one central one: blogs.trb.com

Disclaimer. This is not me posting under an assumed name. EL

There is a technical term for software just getting worse. It is "bit rot." Technically, it can't happen, but we've all observed a piece of software that used to work (for some value of "work") slowly degrading and eventually just not working.

It is rumoured that stuffing a virgin up the network cable will cure it, but I doubt it.

It happened to me when I clicked on the Post button twice immediately in a row thinking that I haven't pressed it yet, since lately it is taking awhile before I get the Thank You for posting page. That page used to come up within a few seconds after hitting Post. I'm guessing the sandbox is quiet crowded these days.

Lissa is right about "bit rot". I'd suggest brushing the wear-out bits.

I'm going to time this post from the moment I click "Post" to the moment I receive a TY. I am sacrificing myself for the Sandbox. I will report back shortly.

21 seconds, compadres.

Whew! I survived.

(Cue Gloria Gaynor)

Yes, it has happened to me as well, and has even booted me off the Internet to add insult to injury. The last time that happened I waited a bit to see if the comment somehow made it through, then reposted it.

Speaking of Gloria Gaynor..Maybe Piano Rob can answer my question. This group Einstürzende Neubauten, were they inspired by P.D.Q. Bach? Two of his better known works are:
Pervertimento for Bagpipes, Bicycle and Balloons, S. 66
“Erotica” Variations, for banned instruments and piano, S. 36EE (P.D.Q. Bach)
Theme: Windbreaker
Variation I: Balloons
Variation II: Slide Whistle
Variation III: Slide Windbreaker

You are speaking of the most distinguished alumnus of my alma mater. EL

Piano Rob cannot answer umlaut-torturing band questions! Blixa Bargeld is very serious artist!
The PianoRob is not a percussion instrument!
Now scream Einstürzende Neubauten! at the top of your lungs!
Now scream it like a man on fire!
Now scream it like a Weimar era one-legged Silesian prostitute!
Now scream it like you are in the throes of ecstasy but a giant eagle bites out your lliver!
Now just scream!
Now whisper it in the ear of coma girl.
Now give coma girl a red-belly!
Now scream it repeatedly while you imagine your own death by defenestration!
Now cuddle!

Dave - I had never heard of the band until it was mentioned on another thread here. They sound interesting and I want to YouTube them soon. However, I am quite the aficionado of PDQ Bach's music; I own most of the recordings and have conducted several works. Based on a cursory Internet search, including Wikipedia, it appears as though Neubaten may indeed have been inspired by PDQ, at least in his propensity to "invent" musical (?) instruments as needed (e.g., the tromboon among others). Yet, somehow, I find it difficult to believe that the boys in the band have heard much PDQ.

EL - Are you saying you attended the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople? Just kidding - that's where Prof. Peter Schickele teaches. But I'm assuming you are referring to Maestro Schickele and not PDQ Bach (of whom there's no record of his having attended any school, as far as I know - LOL).

True, true. EL

It is rumoured that stuffing a virgin up the network cable will cure it, but I doubt it.

I'd fly in from Florida to see this at the April get-together.

Hmmm, looks like OMG missed his afternoon meds again....

Oh, a virgin. We used a Virginian. No wonder!

A Virginian is probably easier to find.

OMG wrote (among many other things): Now scream it repeatedly while you imagine your own death by defenestration!

Seeing as I am now typing this in my basement, defenestration would be essentially meaningless, much less death by defenestration.

Sixteen seconds!

But look how quickly I'm publishing them. EL

But look how quickly I'm publishing them.

That's because you don't have anything to pack; lots of time on your hands. (Don't forget extra memory cards for the camera.)

I'm waiting for the Bill Leeb remix of this thread.

"Though Front Line Assembly has had consistent underground success, Leeb's most widely known efforts are through his side project, Delerium..." OK, I'd really prefer Kruder & Dorfmeister. And Piano Rob, I think P.D.Q. also invented the left-handed sewer flute and it is featured in his Schleptet in E Flat Major.

Dave - Right you are. Other infamous (?) original instruments of his are the hardart, the lasso d'amore, the double-reed slide music stand, the worm, the snake, and the corrugahorn. There's also a police trombone in there.
