Too many comments have been submitted from you

Dahlink got an error message yesterday when she hadn't posted since early morning that said:

Too many comments have been submitted from you in a short period of time. Please try again in a short while.

I asked our web editors and I got these two explanations:

it's a known bug with IE - if you enter the Captcha code incorrectly, you get that message. then if you're using IE and you hit the back button, the old captcha code is displayed, not the new one

I bet the commenter didn’t type in the Captcha code correctly and that’s why they got the message.

Looks like a floodcheck error message.  If someone keeps hitting the "submit" button it'll block them for a few minutes.  It prevents spammers from coming through and putting up lots of posts, but it also has the effect of booting readers who accidentally make multiple posts.

So if it happens to you, you (sort of) know why.

I got the same message but it also said that I was fat.

I think when you get this message, it's time to go back to work - and that might not happen for some who could suffer some serious painful, withdrawals for not being able to post in ONLY existing blog in the known universe. No wonder we are sliding more and more into a recession...

Eric, I'll have you know that I never ever even peek at the blog while I'm at work.
Harrumph! Someone needs to get something done around here. (Lucky for me I work a flexible schedule.)

I shocked to find that there's gambling in Casablanca...

As a computer geek, the first one sounds more reasonable to me. Maybe Dahlink should try Mozilla Firefox or Opera. Both are free.

It happened to me and I'm pretty sure it was from hitting POST twice, because even though it seemed rejected it, the post did go through. Hope that helps itchy trigger fingers. !=)

From my experience, the Sun website doesn't play well with Firefox.

I'm posting from a Mac so I use Safari, but I don't think the problem was with my browser. It was the web dominatrix showing me just who is the boss.

I had that problem a few times. First time I was sure it was personal.

For anyone still using IE7 or earlier, a while back I switched to
Firefox (IE and Flash Player have never learned to play nice together). I've not had a problem with the Sun website. The switch was easy and clean. It is free, give it a try. (For those using toy computers [read Mac] who knows: you're a cult and probably beyond help.)

I only use Firefox in reading The Sun and it has been fine, no problems. The Sun blogs are a different story since I had a problem with the blog pages, including this our beloved one, not loading automatically with updated pages after each visit. I ended up hitting refresh each time. Then I realized that I needed to update the Firefox browser itself (the issue was more than the cache) - problem solved.

Hal, I use Firefox (on a Mac) to access the Sun website and it works well for me.
