So you want to post a comment?

I just got this e-mail from a reader, and I thought it might be time to answer some of these questions again so we can suck even more people into wasting even more hours posting on the blog:

Hi Elizabeth,

I think it would be fun to be a part of your blog, but I've never participated in one and don't quite know how I'm supposed to fill out the form on your site.  Do I fill in my nom de plume where it says "name"? You said I don't need to give my email address but that's fine if you are the only one who sees it.  Do I need to fill in the--can't remember--maybe, HTML or something?  As you see, I'm still a monkey banging on the keyboard here, struggling out of the 20th c. into the 21st.

Here's what I wrote back: ...

I'm so glad you asked. Every once in awhile I post something to encourage people, but new readers come along all the time. Yes, just put in your user name where it says name. Only I see your e-mail; it's helpful if I need to get in touch with you for some reason, but not a requirement. The URL field is only for if you have your own blog, and want people to click on your name to get to it.

On the right of the main page under Categories, there's one on commenting that you might find helpful, or at least amusing.

'I'm still a monkey banging on the keyboard ...' Oh, you will fit right in. Look at me.

Welcome aboard, and block off at least 3 hours a day for D@L. Within weeks that can easily rise to 12 - 16 hours. Some of us even have D@L as our home page and constantly strike the refresh button. Its a full life (of a sort.)

I think I can speak for all of us - the time we spend here is NEVER wasted.

Thanks!

RTSO is a wise monkey, a sharp dresser and quite persuasive.

Thank you Mr. Ganache, you got my good side, although Book wishes it had been included.

I rarely post, but check this blog all the time. Actually, the ONLY blog I check all the time. I never feel time here's wasted--I learn something new (and often humorous) here all the time. I bet other cities don't have nearly the blog you have here. Always feels like people talking to each other (and they're mostly civilized)!

Book is RtSO's date.

For those who came in late (what took you so long?) -

Book: my constant dinning companion, what ever book I'm currently reading.

hey i wouldn't mind trying something new!
:)

Maybe we should double with my girlfriend. I call her The New Yorker. She loves me as Longtime Subscriber. Jeez, it's Saturday morning and I'm already doing this?

RtSO is obviously a serial reader.

if your reading this....... I just wanted to say that life is not what it may appear to be, before you know it you look up and dont know were you are, even if you were looking around. I was holding back, but latly Im more my self..... more spontanious and coragous and care free. i am and always will be the one and only. the freedom rider.

Sorry to get in so late on this one -- writing from Des Moines (still waiting for Zagat, alas!).

My current usual date is my PDA.

I often find myself looking for a decent meal alone on a Saturday night in a distant place. I used to take a book in with me, but got furrowed brows from the wait staff, figuring that here was a one-top taking up space on a high dollar night. So lately I've been downloading stuff onto my Palm, or just bringing it in to play solitare during the long moments of boredom. If I've done my homework, I can actually do a little writing on it as well.

About folks in the food biz not liking bloggers, I think it's immaterial. Here (Paris) chefs, owners and critics read the blogs and customers appear and disappear accordingly. Cook or review badly at your peril.

He takes restaurants seriously but not himself, and his favorite restaurant is the one you love, too.
