Rant from a leapling

MortonsLeap.jpg

Robert Fritz is really annoyed, and rightly so. All his life he's had only one fourth the number of birthdays and birthday presents as you and me. Finally someone does something nice for people who are born on Feb. 29. Morton's The Steakhouse announces it's going to give out free steak dinners to all those leaplings with a valid ID as long as they call in advance and make their reservations. So Robert calls, and here's what he says happens: ...

...HERE IS THE ****ED UP THING WITH MORTON WITH THERE SO CALLED PROMO, THEY ARE ONLY OFFERING IT TO 5 PEOPLE AT EACH MORTONS. THATS ******** ! I CALLED AS SOON AS I HEARD ABOUT IT AT BOTH PLACES , BOTH WERE FILLED. IF MORTONS IS GOING TO OFFER SOMETHING GOOD DONT BE A B**** ABOUT IT AND ONLY OFFER IT TO 10 PEOPLE MARYLAND.
THANK YOU A PISSED OFF 9 YEAR OLD (FEB. 29, 1972

I'm guessing here but I bet the wait list is still for the 5 spots at each restaurant. Unless one of the lucky five bows out, there's not much hope.

I heard someone from the Baltimore Morton's promoting this on the radio this morning...They said they still had availability.

Just a guess, but all posters may be correct. The "freebie" may only be given to five people per location, and yet there may still be plenty of reservations still available on the given day. In other words, not everybody who makes a reservation gets the deal, but nobody gets the deal without making a reservation. Thus the number of reservations available per location may greatly exceed the number of "leapers" who will get the free meal at each location.

Or that's how the whole situation appears to me.

I have to know. What dish is pictured above? It looks devine.

What about a new blog topic of Baltimore's best birthday specials? I always get a point to get a free cannoli on my birthday from Vaccaro's.

That's a good idea. However, I don't know of any others, so I'll make a separate post as soon as I get out from under and other posters will have to tell us.

Chameleon Cafe used to have some kind of birthday special (1/2 off entree perhaps) but it has been two years (!) since I've last dined there.

So Robert Fritz feels cheated being born a leap year baby. Try being a Christmas Day baby.

At least those are nice days. Try being born on Groundhog day.

FHJ: Jesus never complained.

My sister-in-law had the world's worse birthday--New Year's Day. No one wants to party then.

With the restaurant folks who read this column, I'm surpised someone hasn't spoken up and mentioned that their restaurant is also doing a similar Leapling birthday offer. (HINT maybe?)

Despite the sadness people have when their birthday falls on holidays like Christmas, New Years (eve or day), I can't imagine the weirdness that exists for Leaplings.

I'd hope that RF has a better opportunity than Morton's free steak. I think that's quite low of them to offer the meal to only 5 Leaplings.

You don't want too many Leaplings together in one place, what with their magical powers and all.
