Laissez les bon temps rouler

Jambalaya.jpgThis e-mail from Orion had me stumped. Does anyone have any recommendations around here?

Hello, Ms. Large.  I need your help.  I have not been able to find "real" New Orleans style jambalaya since Jeannier's went down.  I mean with whole or large pieces of seafood in it, not what you get from Copeland's.  Can you help me.

The places I knew have all gone under (not because of their jambalaya). And I didn't even remember that Jeannier's served it.

Pardon me, but isn't the phrase "Laissez les bon temps roulez"? (Sorry if I am being nitpicky.)

I love nitpicking. Thanks.

Yes, Clarence's Taste of New Orleans in Harford County. Worth the drive. Best jambalaya you'll find in these here parts. Whoosh!

No - Elizabeth is right. It's "rouler," not "roulez."

"Rouler" is the infinitive.

I second Sessa's recommendation of Clarence's Taste of New Orleans!

Jeannier's served jambalaya? I never would have guessed.

I highly recommend Acadiana in DC

How about Ethel and Ramone's in Mt. Washington. I know they have wonderful gumbo but I'm not sure about the jambalaya.

I'll second the recommendation for Acadiana in DC. None of us had jambalaya there, but we enjoyed our selections enormously. They are on Open Table.

If you're willing to drive to the DC area, Louisiana Express in Bethesda has jambalaya that will satisfy you. I was in DC for 12 years, and ate there a lot - place kind of reminds me of early K-Paul's, ambiance-wise -- no frills and good food. Actually, all the food there is good.
I like Acadiana too (all of Jeff Tunks' restaurants), but it's a little upscale for me when I want to eat something like jambalaya or gumbo.

Give Ethel and Ramone's in Mt. Washington a try. Best Jambalaya and Gumbo outside of New Orleans! The head chef Ed Bloom trained at K-paul's and the cuisine blends Maryland/Chesapeake Bay foods with Cajun - Creole fare. Check out the website (www.ethelandramones.com). Its definately worth trying. There's simply no other place like it in Baltimore.

Shill alert!

Jeez, not even subtle. Just a standard PR blurb on a nine month old post.

Lame lame lame!

I heard that hobo's pee in the gumbo and the jambalaya is made with locusts. Which is probably why it IS the best.

I read somewhere that Jack's Bistro has the best jambalaya and gumbo.

Bucky, too funny! I was going to post the same thing!

Ouch, that's some serious shill beating. You see why you shouldn't do that? Because everytime someone does this sort of thing we beat them senseless and a place you may not have thought about before now leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Jack's Bistro does have the best gumbo and jambalaya because they use fresh hobo urine, not the canned stuff that Ethyl and Rambone's use.

Joyce, you've got to get up earlier to beat the ol' Buckster to the punch.

Does Jack's keep a steady supply of hobos in the back?

Jack's Bistro has the best selection of hobos on the East Coast. I think they keep them in hobo pens like veal calves.

Having never eaten at Jack's Bistro, they may really have the best of everything, and enthusiastic patrons.

Or, they may have shills. I don't know. Hard to say. We may be being too rough on them.
