Quoth the raven, Next Friday

AnnabelLee.jpg

Annabel Lee Tavern, at 601 S. Clinton St. is scheduled to open next Friday. Once it really is open, I'll let you know more in my Table Talk column in the Wednesday food section.

I think people will be interested in it particularly because the new tavern is owned by Kurt X. Bragunier, who was a general manager at Brewer's Art for seven years. That's real longevity in the biz these days; and I'm sure he has a following.

Think anyone knows what this refers to?

Think anyone knows what this refers to?

If you're referring to the Poe reference, I'm sure lots of us know what it refers to.

I love the artwork with the raven in the background.

Annabel Lee was put to music a few decades ago and sung by Joan Baez. It's quite a haunting melody to go with the haunting words.

Except, now I'll have an earworm all day.

Hope the foods good or else, "Never more"!

Wonder if they'll stock Ressurection or any of the other Brewer's Art beers.

That would be nice ...

I just hope the food is good and that it is smoke free!

I have it from an inside source that they WILL be serving Brewer's Art beers!

I have been helping the owner prepare for the opening. To answer the posted questions: Resurrection will be on tap and it is a smoke free atmosphere! Plus, lots of great food!! See you on December 7th at Annabel Lee 601 S. Clinton Street.

Thanks for the updates Jennifer! Looks like I have plans for tomorrow night!

From all signs, looked like a good opening. Some minor kinks to work out, but nothing that couldn't be placed squarely on the fact that the restaurant had only been opened for about 3 hours and I suspect was a bit busier than had been expected; with space at a premium, it was bordering upon standing room only while I and a few friends were there. Food was very good and reasonably priced.

Thanks for the early review!

I went tonight - seemed like a nice, laid-back place. We had the crab dip, which started off swell - large chunks of crab on top - but ended up being too much of a gooey mess by the end. The decor was classy but understated, and the service was friendly.

Most interesting, though, is that both the bartender and the chef come from Lulu's Off Broadway, which, sadly, we learned had just closed on Friday withotu any notice. For my money, they had the best bar food in Baltimore - certainly the best bar food in Fells Point -and it will be missed. However, it's nice to know that the chef has found work again so soon. We'll look forward to trying more things on the Annabel Lee menu.
