Another one bites the dust...and another

PandaChinese.jpg While I was hunting around for appropriate art for my Top Ten Chinese restaurants promo yesterday, I came across this photo of the Chinese Panda Gourmet in Lake Falls Village.

That jogged my memory that someone told me it had closed recently. It turns out, I found out by called the salon next door, that...

...it's being replaced by a second Sushi Hana. (The first is in Towson.) When I called the original Sushi Hana I was told that the menu will be the same, and the opening is planned for some time in January.

Then Matt e-mailed me to say that Afghan Kabob (37 S. Charles St.) was closed, and when he called he got a message that the line has been "temporarily disconnected at the customer's request." He's wondering it the restaurant will open anywhere else. Anybody have any news for Matt?

According to the Downtown Partnership (I am signed up to get their news and updates emails)Afghan Kabob has moved from 37 S. Charles St. to the 1000 block of Eastern Ave. in Little Italy.

I'm supposed to get these but haven't been. Thanks for reminding me to request them again.

Thank you for the fantastic news about Sushi Hana! I think they have the freshest, best sushi around--and it's my kids' favorite restaurant. The Lake Falls location will save us a bit of a drive.

i don't really have much news for Matt other than the owner of Afghan Kabob also own Petalos in Little Italy...perhaps calling there might help you get an answer.

Thanks! I had forgotten that.

Actually, Petalos closed down about a month ago (give or take.) The gates are chained shut and I haven't seen any activity in there for some time. BTW, I live in Little Italy.Lucky me!!

I've been calling, but the line is always busy, so I figured. It's located at 1002 Eastern Ave., so I thought maybe the Afghan Kabob would be reopening there.

Looks like Petalos is for sale, according to the LoopNet.com site.

I wonder if sit down Chinese restaurants are becoming a thing of the past. I live pretty close to the Panda, and I'm thinking my only options for Chinese food will be take out places in Hampden.

This is a really interesting topic that I should address in a separate post. Thanks.

I learned that starting the carry out trend by pioneering Chinese restaurants in the old now gone Chinatown in Baltimore was their way of going around the segregation laws and be able to serve all colors back in the day. That's genius I thought.

Will miss Panda. Only place around I know of that had wor shu op on the menu.
