Top Ten Worst Wine Bars
I was thinking this morning that some subjects for Top Ten Tuesday lead to lots of controversy (Top Ten Italian Restaurants) and some don't (Top Ten Wine Bars) and I was trying to figure out why.
The most obvious reason is ...
And yet both kinds of lists seem worthwhile -- the former because it generates a lot of discussion, the latter because if you want a list of, say, wine bars there might be some you don't know about.
Still, I have a nagging feeling I must have left some worthwhile ones off my list. But the only other ones I could come up with were places like Chiapparelli's, which advertises a wine bar on its Web site, but is so much a restaurant I just couldn't include it. (However, if you've ever gone there just to drink wine, please let us know about it.)
I had to leave off Midnight Sun Sam Sessa's favorite wine bar, The Vine, because it's been closed for the last few months for renovations and who knows when it will reopen. He promised me he would post an update on his blog today.

What about Corks? From their website it says that Baltimore Magazine called it "a miniature utopia for wine lovers."

That's another annoying thing about Vin. Why couldn't they pronounce it correctly (or else spell it to avoid confusing people)?

No, I think she means The Vine in Fed Hill/Locust Point area. They used to have fun wine tastings on Wednesday nights but have been closed for a little while now.
Yes, thanks

For those of you who are missing the Vine's $5 wine tasting, Charlotte's on Light St. has a similar tasting on Tuesday nights. The wines are still provided by Vineyard Wine and Spirits, and some of the same people run the tasting.

But, Susan, the restaurant named "Vin" says to pronounce it "vine," which is just so wrong!

There’s little good to say about Grand Cru’s service, which is dismal. Taste was perhaps the worse experience we’re had in seven years at a Baltimore establishment. It’s too bad, because Belvedere is a fabulous location, and people who frequent this area deserve better.
