So you want to comment
I just received an insightful e-mail from a reader about my entry Iconic Figures of the Baltimore Restaurant Scene, and I asked if he/she would post it under the entry as part of the ongoing conversation.
Here's what he/she wrote back: ...
I've never gone through the posting acceptance process...is it hard?
I had to explain that our crack blog software seems to be set up to actively discourage commenting. You can comment without using your real name or any name, and you certainly don't have to include an e-mail address or URL. All you have to be able to do is type in the letter it asks for.
The approval process consists of my being awake enough to post your comment. Sorry about that, you night owls, but you'll have to wait till morning to see it on the site.
Of course, let's all remember the Rules.

Comments
Elizabeth, I found out that last week that if I do not hit the reload button on my browser (the latest versions of Internet Explorer or Firefox, it doesn't matter) as I visit your blog site by clicking on the link or googling, I get an older page and not the most current one. I therefore also do not see new comments including mine. And its not just your blog but others in the Sun's site as well such as Rodricks and Kasper's. Its not my computer because I tested it with many others. I found it a little annoying but today seems to be better since I didn't have to reload - I finally (I think) got your latest entry. Hope that helps.
Thanks. I'll pass this along.

OK, Eric, here's the answer I got from my Web Master. And if you're good, I'll tell you what a cache is:
Movable Type is not the best in many ways, but I think this is probably a browser cache problem. The user should try adjusting his or her cache level to the absolute minimum and clear it more than once a year.

To translate what he said into the real world, in Internet Explorer you could go to Internet Options under the Tools section at the top of the browser and in History, set days to keep in history to zero, and while you're there, click clear history.
Yeah, what chowsearch said.

Regarding the approval process, I have been impressed that you post critical comments about both yourself and restaurants owned by your friends, such as Donna's. You could have easily deleted posts that said you were on the take for Tony Foreman and Cindy Wolf, or that Donna's was overpriced and overhyped.
Unfortunately, some of the other Sun blogs are not nearly as open minded towards dissenting opinions, particularly if the post is anything negative about that governor of ours. Their idea of debate is O'Malley great or O'Malley really great...discuss.

Yes, Elizabeth, you get a lot of credit for posting some nasty emails questioning your good faith and your credentials. I would have trouble being so open to criticism! (When Sam was being mean to me I wanted to crawl under a rock ...)
Sam Sessa, do you hear this? What do you have to say to this nice lady?

Darlene,
I wasn't being mean toyou. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings with my cell phone comment.
You might find this hard to believe, but I was just using the name "Darlene" -- I wasn't referencing you specifically.
I sincerely apologize for any grievances my deviousness has caused.
=)

I am moved to write to report that Robert Oliver has the worst service of any restaurant I have ever been to . We first went in June & chalked up the fact that all entrees came out at different times & one was wrong as well to the fact that it had just opened. the last dish was delivered 3 minutes before we had to leave although we had been there for over 2 hours. We revisited it before the Renee Fleming concert in early Dec. thinking that all bugs would be corrected & arrived early for our 6:45 reservation. At 7:40 one of our party still had not been served & again we had to leave. We asked 4 different people who worked there to find out what the problem was & were completely ignored. no apologies were forth coming. needless to say we will not dine there again & warn others to think twicw about doing it as well.

Bagels
[Not sure of the category]
There are two culinary requirements for ex-New Yorkers: good Chinese food and good bagels. I'm sorry to say I've given up on Chinese food in Baltimore. When the need arises, I go to DC or I eat at Thai restaurants in Baltimore (really good).
I do know about Goldberg's. I made my peace with soft bagels, but their bagels have, to my mind, a faint chemical taste. I have solved the bagel problem through mail order. You pay $1.10 per bagel and shipping charges that range from a low of $13.56 for a FedEx package of 2 dozen bagels from H&H Midtown Bagels to shipping fees over $40. The H&H bagels were OK, but a little sweet. My current favorite is Tasty Bagels in Brooklyn--reasonably dense bagels with minimal sugar added. I chose the Next Day Air Saver (UPS) shipping option at $26.31. Breakfast happiness at last.
