Merry Christmas

I was at my dentist this Halloween eve, and his office always does things right. Example: Everyone dresses in full costume when Oct. 31 falls on a work day, and he was planning on being the tooth fairy. I missed it by a day.

But I digress.

There is a restaurant angle to this story. ...

They were having a lunch meeting to decide where to hold the office Christmas (Hannukah, Kwanzaa, fill in the Winter Solstice celebration of your choice) party. In past years they had been to Michael's Cafe, Tio Pepe and a couple of other places that I forget. This year they were considering Bluestone, but wanted me to suggest some other options.

They get a little rowdy, they told me, so a private dining room would be nice. But there are only a dozen of them, and how rowdy can a dozen dentists and dental hygienists get? Wait, don't answer that.

Anyway, I wasn't any help because I never get into the private room thing when I review, but I said I would post it on my blog and see if anyone had any suggestions in the north Baltimore/Towson area.

There's a private room in the downstairs of Taste. I had a party there in April '06 for a group of twelve so it should fit the dental dozen. We ordered off the menu and the restaurant was able to accomodate without any issue. They even let us enter the room early to decorate and bring a small radio to play CDs.

My friends and I always require a perimeter so we're familiar with most of the restaurants with private dining areas. Others that would be appropriate for a holiday party include: Pazo, Corks, and Brass Elephant.

Speaking of Christmas, can you help us lonely types who want to eat out on Christmas because turkey TV dinners don't just hit the right holiday note? Thanks.

Rob

Will do.

The Oregon Grille, in Hunt Valley, would make the perfect place for a holiday gathering. We have private dining areas to accomodate small groups of 12 to 14 (ideal for your dentists office!) private floors for either 20-30 guests, or up to 40-50. I would be happy to discuss with you and your readers all of the possibilities the Oregon Grille has to offer. While we are open for Thanksgiving, we are also accepting reservations now for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. With all the Oregon Grille has to offer diners, I believe we are the "angle for the story" you are looking for. Separate from the holiday events I am currently booking, I wanted your readers to know The Oregon Grille has a $5 lunch special Monday through Saturday in the bar. Yes I did say five dollar lunch special!

Wow this is the second time I see the same restaurateur marketing they're place in the last 2 days.
Miss Largedo you think is ok ?

It's OK with me if they identify themselves. In fact, I'm surprised more places don't do it when I ask for restaurants that are open on Thanksgiving or whatever. At least then you know where they're coming from. I don't like it if they pretend to be a customer and give themselves a great review. (Not that I know whether this has happened.)

Okay, we get it already! The Oregon Grille is always the answer.

Yes, I know for a fact that some places have given themselves a plug, but that doesn't bother me unless it' s 6 great reviews in a row for the same place.

On the other hand, Oregon Grille is the place that my foodie sister from California likes to celebrate her birthday. We always ask for the "Golf Room," which seats up to 8 people, and it quiet enough for those of us who are hearing-impaired to enjoy the conversation.

I don't mind the plugs at all- as long as they are identified. I love hearing about specials that I wouldn't otherwise know about.

VIN Restaurant in Towson has a Private Dining Room that seats 10-18pp comfortably. I think the room would be perfect for holiday celebrations. They also take lunch parties of 10 people or more. The new winter menu is delicious!

If memory serves, there have been a number of complaints about the service at Vin lately. This has been seconded by friends of friends who walked out after waiting interminably for their order.

Now I know I'm a few days behind and this is slightly off topic. I'm trying to find a nice place to have a holiday time dinner with friends--@ 10 of us and we want a place that really decorates for the holidays. Any suggestions?

I second Taste. We had our office "party" there the year before last and were very happy. It has the right balance of hip, downtown feel, but benefits from being closer to the county and has parking. This is a huge plus if you have city-phobic co-workers, as I do.
