Bacon, the miracle ingredient

MosbaconBarPop.jpg Midnight Sun Sam tells me he and a friend have a theory that everything tastes better with bacon. Examples: waffles, cheeseburgers, salad.

While I like bacon, bacon is good, I never thought about it in those terms. And then someone recently posted a comment under The One-Item Niche expressing the same rapturous feelings about bacon. One more example and we'll have a trend, folks. ...

However, chocolate is one thing that doesn't taste better with bacon, and I say that unequivocally even though I've never tasted the pictured bacon chocolate bar. Here's a description of it from the Vosges Web site:

Deep milk chocolate coats your mouth and leads to the crunch of smoked bacon pieces. Surprise your mouth with the smoked salt and sweet milk chocolate combination.

Nope, it's just not happening for me.

Bacon and chocolate!? Ick! I love both, but puh-leeze...NOT in a single food item!

I can not even begin to imagine chocolate and bacon. The very thought of this turns my stomach. I think the same thing about the mac & cheese and chocolate... but then I am not big on chocolate. Bacon's another story.

How can a food critic be so dismissive of something without trying it? Mo's Bacon Bar is actually very good. The Smoked Salt and Bacon are refreshing as they pop in your mouth through the milk chocolate

Yeah, this chocolate bar is genuinely excellent. Like having bacon alongside chocolate chip pancakes at breakfast or something. Certainly not something to dismiss out-of-hand, anyhow.

Yes, Elizabeth, how can you be so dismissive?

So far, we're 2-2.

Or, 3-2 if my vote counts. And I haven't even tried the thing.

Salty food and chocolate is a terrific combo. Think about chocolate covered pretzels- not good if the pretzels are unsalted. Give the bar a try- it's actually really good.

Bleh, I hate chocolate-covered pretzels! Although that could be in part 'cause they're generally made with lousy chocolate.

Yes, Elizabeth, remind that uppity whippersnapper Sam that your blog gets a lot more responses than his does. :-)

You need to try one. They really are pretty good. I wrote about it on my blog (which happens to be about bacon) earlier this year. It may not be for everyone, but it is definitely worth a try.

While I too enjoy the pairing of salty-and-sweet when it comes to chocolate-covered pretzels, sausage is my processed meat of choice. Has anyone out there spotted chocolate-covered chorizo?

I'm definitely in the pro-Bacon Bar camp. Bought it (and some other Vosges) for my wife for her birthday and we really enjoyed it. The chocolate and salt combo flat out works. In other bacon news, did you know there's also a Bacon Salt and Bacon Brittle? I smell a Bacon-Themed issue of The Hungover Gourmet!!

I'd try it. I have found in the past few years that salty/smokey goes really well with chocolate.
Of course, ymmv.

Don't forget scallops or melons with bacon at wedding receptions! Mmmmm...bacon-wrapped anything.

Speaking as Midnight Sun Sam's Deep Throat for all things bacon-related), credit should go to Jennie Breeden's webcomic, The Devil's Panties (work-safe except for the name) who brought this product to my attention: http://devilspanties.keenspot.com/d/20071105.html

I like peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. Mom would make them for us kids to take along for lunch when we went fishing. As an older fisherman a beer goes great with them!

I so need to try this!!!
Like I said before - BACON, BACON, BACON!!!
I think I need to start looking for a location for this 'one-niche' restaurant!

Peanut butter, bacon and banana sandwiches. Now there's a delight! Great varieties of texture and flavor, that go well together.

I just bought this for my wife when I saw it today from an Italian grocery in Philadelphia. While at the store, I had to get it from another box from behind an empty one on the shelf - it is the most popular among the Vosges niche of chocolates. Since I had my doubts, I must say it is very delicious :)
