Who are you, Wart Hog?

warthog.jpg

Midnight Sun blogger Sam snapped this photo for me at Iggies the other day with his camera phone.

Cell phone tip: I knew immediately he must have an LG because every time I've had to have my cell repaired, which has been often, I've asked the Verizon "technician" what kind of phone he has, and it's always an LG. But I digress.

Apparently Wart Hog is the user name of someone on the Chowhound.com board who has been saying nice things about Iggies, and they want to thank him/her. I'm not sure why Iggies hasn't been inundated with people claiming to be Wart Hog in the hopes of free pizza, but maybe folks are more honest than I think.

Warthog is a great resource, since he apparently makes it all over the area and eats at a wide variety of places. I sometimes think he lives in his car.

I'm a bit surprised at seeing that though, since Iggie's was only #4 on his list of the top five pizza places.

The anonymity of Chowhound is kind of interesting. I post there and everywhere under my real name. As a result, I make a point of not posting where I intend to go, since I'd hate for that to affect my experience. I have no idea how much local restaurant owners peruse the board, but I sometimes suspect it's quite a bit.

History is important on the board -- random opinions from first time posters rank fairly low on the credibility scale with me. Warthog, on the other hand, has very high credibility -- if he says a place is good, I tend to make it a point to go there.

Wow! So Wart Hog is a budding food celebrity then.

But why hasn't he/she read Dining At Large and come forward?

I thought I told more people to go to Iggie's than anyone else on Chowhound (and I'm not Warthog - though I agree he's a great CH resource). Everyone who I take there loves it. There's such a fun vibe and you can take kids and they're really nice and the pizza is great.

I was once planning an outing, and Warthog was going to try to make it.

He called my cellphone, but in the super secret world the the Warthog, I couldn't even see his number.

Warthog is a terrific resource, and we're lucky to have him on the Balto/DC chowhound board.

Anyway, if I were him, I'd keep my status as the international (well Baltimorean) foodie man of mystery, well, a mystery!

(Although if he does want to emerge from behind his cloak, I'd love to meet him!)
