A new Mexican place opens

cantina.jpgWhen the spot at 353 N. Calvert St. was The Bridge, it was a hangout for Sun folks. Not that the food was fabulous. I remember an editor got what she called at BLH sandwich there once. (H for "hair.")

Then it became the Caribbean Kitchen, which seemed to be doing pretty well considering that this is a place that basically only has customers Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch. But it moved north up Charles Street, and the location has been vacant awhile.

Now it's reopened as Hannita's Cantina, serving tacos, tortas, burritos and quesadillas.

To where exactly has the Caribbean Kitchen moved? I hadn't been there for awhile, and was disappointed to find it closed during a jerk chicken craving. You said Charles St, but when Googling, the only other non-353 address I get is 218 N Liberty, which I'm guessing is the Dutch Pot Cafe? Same owners?

I've heard the 1800 block, but I haven't swung by to get the exact address yet, and I only get the old phone number from information. As soon as I find out, I'll post it.

I went to The Bridge almost daily when I worked at The Sun from '66-'82. The food was always good and cheap, particularly the Greek specialties, but even then it was a "greasy spoon" with WAY too many bugs on the walls, so I usually got my meals to go.

I was very pleased to get an AUTHENTIC Mexican Lunch on Calvert Street, at a spot that at first looked like a sandwich stop! These guys...Muy Bueno!!
