Love cake? CakeLove is coming

Warren Brown, host of Sugar Rush on the Food Network, told me he's close to finalizing negotiations for a lease in Canton for a CakeLove, the popular Washington-based bakery chain he owns that specializes in cakes and small sweets made from scratch.
"I'll be very excited to get the project/build-out going," he said, "because many people have been supporting us from Baltimore -- whether coming to the DC locations, emailing, or sending good vibes."
He said he'd let me know when the deal is closed, but the architectural drawings have to be approved by city officials first. I'm sure there are lots of CakeLove fans out there, so I'll keep you posted.

He just opened his newest location over by my new place in Shirlington, in Arlington VA, and putting one in my old neighborhood. Dude is obviously determined to make me fat.
Mr. Brown makes good old fashioned butter cakes, and folks who've never had one before should let the cake come up to room temperature before serving. It's a much better, lighter cake than when it's served cold.
And the cupcake bar is e-v-i-l...

That'll make two Food Network show ties to Baltimore along with Ace of Cakes' Charm City Cakes.

I am already fat and seemingly about to get fatter! We currently travel to Washington to visit his Florida Avenue location. Love his stuff because it reminds me of the cakes that my mother and her cousin used to make. And now, finally, he is coming to Baltimore. There is a Supreme Being. Another entry for your Sugar Week extravaganza next year. Baltimore can always use new bakery talent.

Ugh, I can't stand Cake Love! I think their cakes aren't very good, and they're horribly overpriced. Keep it local, kids, and get your cuppycakes from either Charm City Cupcakes in Mt. Vernon or Baltimore Cupcake Company in Locust Point. I don't think either of them are great, but they're on par with Warren Brown's overpriced cupcakes in terms of taste, and they're definitely cheaper.
