Soup's on

SoboSoup

I like this idea from aussiewonder a lot, maybe because I'm cold today. You may have missed it if you read my entry before the comment was posted, so I'll repeat it here:

W/ the cooler weather coming, how about a Top 10 Soup Spots? And while I love a good chilli or MD Crab Soup, sometimes it's nice to have a wider selection. So maybe places that you know have more than two SOD (Soups of the Day) or places that go beyond the original two.

Off the top of my head I can't think of ten places, so I'll have to do a little research. Suggestions welcome.

steve's lunch in the cross street market, soup's on at rose's cookies, atwater's, the yabba pot, liquid earth, ze mean bean cafe, great sage in clarksville, stone mill bakery, costas inn ... that's 9 ... can't think of 10th but i'm sure it's out there ...

What about One World Cafe on West University? They always have two interesting soup specials, and one is usually vegan.

The soup at Atwater's in Belvedere Square is quite good. They have lovely seasonal offerings like parsnip and yam as well as good takes on the classics!

Soup's On - on the Avenue in Hampden. Really awesome soup.

I love Md crap soup and have tried it everywhere... my favorites are Rallo's in Locust Point (they have wonderful shrimp soup too) or McCormick and Schmick.

Whole Foods has great soup. Their seafood gumbo, autumn squash and gazpacho are all great. They have 3 seafood soups a day, two non seafood then more sold cold.

I love this idea! I am a big soup lover but find that many restaurants are not very creative in this department. Looking forward to more great ideas. I do know there is a Soups On on Belair Road in Perry Hall. Have not been there yet, was waiting for the weather to cool off. Not sure if it is related to the one in Hampden however.

Try Soup's On Baltimore on Belair rd. in perry hall. Amazing variety with something for everyone from meat lovers to vegeterians and even dessert soups. They offer it hot to eat now or for take home for later chilled or frozen. www.soupsonbalto.com .

This is a much better Top Ten idea. Atwater's gets my vote. There are now two locations (maybe more?)

How about Stone Mill Bakery? Wonderful fresh soups and also a prepared case where you can take soups home for later consumption (or even for the freezer). Atwater's also gets a vote from me.

It's been ages since I've been there, but my officemates in Howard County used to swear by the daily soups at Produce Galore ...

Don't forget the soups at the Thai and Vietnamese places. My personal favorites are the lemongrass noddle soups at Saigon Remembered.

I know it's a chain, but if you work downtown and are in the mood for soup, Au Bon Pain always has a number of good choices. I like the wild mushroom bisque.

Speaking of downtown, I love the gazpacho at JavaJoe's on Baltimore Street. Unfortunately, they only offer it in the summer. They usually have 4 or 5 soups daily, some of which are vegan.

Atwater's Ploughboy Soups--both Belvedere Square and The Shops at Kenilworth--are among the world's best! Add a hunk o' their gorgeous bread, and it's heaven in a bowl!

Does anyone remember when the previous owner of Bicycle (Bill Ramsey I think?) had a stand in Cross Street Market? It was only open for about a year before Bicycle opened. I loved all of his soups and miss them!

Anyone remember The Soup Kitchen? I loved their sampler - four different yummy small cups of soup - whatever they were making that day. And their spinach salad with hot bacon dressing was wonderful.

Atwater's soups at their Kenilworth and Belvedere locations are fantastic. 4 soups are offered on a daily basis: a seafood usually with shrimp and crab, a meat soup and 2 vegetarian or vegan soups. During the summer there were some great cold soups and now the fall soups are in. What makes the soups even better is the bread served with them - delicious!
