Next Tuesday's Top Ten

LittleSpice

Now that I'm home I'm having a craving for Thai food. Not, however, pad thai, or any other noodle-based dish. Give me a week or two. So next Tuesday's Top Ten will be a look at the area's Thai restaurants. Please feel free to nominate your favorites.

Also, If anyone has tried Ten-O-Six since it changed hands, I'd be interested to know what you think. It happened very quietly.

My favorite Thai restaurant was Bangkok Place, on York Road next to Asia Foods. Unfortunately for me, the owner retired, sold the building, and now it's ticky-tacky townhouses. I loved their sublime red curry, particularly when it featured salmon, and their Tod Mun Pla were so nice and un-greasy.

I also like the variety at Banthai. They have noodle dishes that I haven't seen elsewhere. Kee Mao Ta Lay is my favorite there.

I know everyone is going to say they like Thai Restaurant on Greenmount, but it's just meh, in my opinion. I hate the whole stirfry-fake-Chinese-for- people-afraid-to-try-Thai part of the menu.

My favorite is Thai One On...although, my last trip there was a little disappointing.

Lord knows we could use more and better Thai places in this town - and Vietnamese for that matter!

Thai One On! The drunken noodles are amazing. So are the spring rolls. Plus, and I know it's not Thai, but their sushi is outstanding. It's up there as one of my favorite restaurants in the area.

There's a new Thai place in the basement place where Minatos used to be. Been there twice and quite impressed with the ingredients and execution. The yummy factor is there too.

Though my favorite is still Chok Chai on Hardford Road in Parkville. It's a hole in the wall...and the proprietor reminds me a little bit of the Soup Nazi in Seinfield. But the food is darn good.

Thai arroy in Federal Hill is amazing. Dont be fooled by their inexpensive prices- The food is oh-so-delicious, and just for added fun, you can bring your own wine/beer at no charge!

Thai Classic in Eldersburg is very good as is Thai Classic III in Westminster.

The panang purry is excellent.

Bangkok Garden in Columbia is somewhat off the beaten track, perhaps, but yummy.

I'm sorry, but Thai Restaurant and Chokchai are both in the "meh" bucket for me. Greasy and bland. Thai Landing was pretty good the last time I was there.

My favorite Thai restaurant is Little Spice (http://www.littlespice.org) near Arundel Mills in Hanover. Very fresh, flavorful and lunch includes a soup and dessert.

I love it when people include the web site with the mention of a new place (or, at least, new to me). Thanks, Craig!

Thai One On... great sushi too!!
