The mysterious Red Fish

redfish I got this e-mail a couple of days ago:

Something new on Boston Street!
The Red Fish in Canton has a new owner, a new chef, and a new menu. The owners are a Maryland family. Jimmy Almuete, is the main force in re-inventing this restaurant. Although, the mediterranean theme will still be present...Chef Brian Martin (previously from Kali's Court/Mezze) has infused the menu with influences from around the world. His new theme is "global comfort food, restaurant style"!
We are excited with the new menu and look forward to introducing it to the Baltimore community.

Red Fish Restaurant

It sounds good except that I've e-mailed him back a couple of times and called the restaurant and never heard anything more. If anyone knows anything about the mysterious Red Fish, please post below or send me an e-mail at elizabeth.large@baltsun.com.

This should be a great kitchen in that I understand the chef Brian Martin worked at Charlie's Trotters in Chicago prior to Kali's Court.

I went to Red Fish tonight (Aug.7), they were closed- we were peaking in the windows when one of the owners came out and said they were closed due to plumbing and other problems. He said they didn't realize how many things were subpar.
We have a $100 gift card and asked if he would honor it- he said no. He said Blue Point Grille in Ellicott City would honor it, he said that was part of the negiotations for the sale. We drove all the way to BPG only to be told by the GM she couldn't accept them without authorization by the owners who were not available.
We've been stiffed.

blow fish part 2?

I wouldn't expect for a restaurant with a new owner, to accept a gift certificate which money went to the previous owner. It is essentially a new restaurant, the only reason the name is still red fish is because that sign is way too expensive to take down. If the name was different, would you expect to be able to take that gift certificate to the new place and ask them to accept it because the previous restaurant occupied the same space? That would be a negative 100$ in their books. BPG is owned by the previous owner of red fish's mother. I worked at redfish for two years. Good luck with getting your money back, it was hard enough for employees to get paid.
