Down the ocean

Just how lazy are you? I have to admit this sounds pretty good to me. The Naked Crab, a new carryout in Ocean City, takes the back off its crabs, pulls out the organs, replaces them with seasoning and then steams them. Hence the name.

Not to worry, you traditionalists. The place also has regular steamed hardshells.

I learned to appreciate the superior flavor of shrimp steamed with the heads on. Yes, you have to pull the heads off and it looks gross, but the taste is worth it. I think the same principle would apply to steamed crabs.

When visiting Ocean City this week, my group (7 in all) went to the Naked Crab and bought some of each kind -- Naked Crabs without the shell and messy insides -- and traditional or "classic" steamed crabs. Some of us liked the Naked version, and some preferred our crabs intact, but we all agreed that they tasted great. We really liked the T-shirts and hats they have there too. You can also buy nuts in a can that have spicy crab or sea salt flavoring, and we liked them too. They had some free samples so you could try before you buy. If you like crabs, don't miss this place. You can get other seafood there too.
