Where's the shrimp?
(Chiaki Kawajiri/Sun Photographer)
Yesterday a couple of tennis friends wanted to know where to get the best shrimp salad. They had just had very good, maybe even the best, shrimp salad at Taneytown Deli & Sandwich Shop (10 Mellor Ave.) in Catonsville.
If it wasn't the best, it was certainly the most expensive. It cost them $18. ...
...They hadn't put money in the parking meter; and when they came out, their car had been ticketed.
The only place I know of that's known for its shrimp salad -- and always has been -- is Kibby's at 3450 Wilkens Ave. (See photo above.) But there must be others.
We all agreed that great shrimp salad has big chunks of shrimp (not undercooked), good mayonnaise, celery and seasonings that don't overpower the main attraction. I haven't tried Taneytown Deli's version, but I pass my friends' recommendation along.
And don't forget to feed the meter.

Though not a restaurant, try Geresbeck's grocery store at the base of the Hawthorne peninsula in Middle River. Delicious and reasonable. ($9/lb)

Eddies of Roland Park has the best shrimp salad in town with Dipasquale's a close second.

Oddly enough, the place I go for shrimp salad is the American Leigon in Westminster. The salad is filled with good sized shrimp, the right amount of mayo, and just enough old bay. Oh, and best of all is $5.
Now, I'm not going to say this is world's best shrimp salad, but good luck finding a shrimp salad this good for $10 let alone $5.

I have to agree with Emily. I love Eddie's shrimp salad. And, don't forget that, twice a year, Eddie's has it on sale as part of their anniversary celebrations.

Fifer's in Pasadena, MD. Definitely the most flavorful shrimp for your buck, about $10 for an overflowing sandwich! YUM!

Saturday afternoon we sat outside at Bay Cafe and I had a great shrimp salad sandwich. It was very nicely seasoned, and huge, I took 1/2 of it home.

My three pics for shrimp salad are Rocket to Venus, Bertha's, and Mary Mervis in Lexington Market. I'm definitely going to try Eddie's in RP since I didn't catch this thread way back when.

Betty and Jake's saloon in Catonsville. It is the old-fashioned neighborhood bar, but boy, do they have good shrimp salad.
(They also serve a really big, really good hamburger).

Far and away the best shrimp salad in Baltimore is found at the Linway Lounge on Harford Rd. near Taylor Ave. It's a little hole in the wall neighborhood bar but you can't beat it
anywhere in town. Dare you to try it!

Although I now live in Florida the best Shrimp Salad sandwich I ever had was at the Bay Cafe. We may catch em here but I have to make my own shrimp salad to satisfy my taste.
