Hello Goodbye

Edward Kim, the chef who opened Ixia, owned Soigne for a while, moved on to DC and then came back to Baltimore to recreate Saffron in Mount Vernon as a "modern American" restaurant, is on the move again...

His one-year contract is up, and he's leaving as of June 17. (No, he doesn't have another job as yet, although he's looking in this area.)

So if you never got around to trying his unique cuisine --  part Asian, part European, a little Latino thrown in for good measure -- you have about another month to do so.

No word yet on who will replace him. I have a call in to owner Tony Chemmanoor, and I'll let you know what he says when we connect up.

My dinner at Saffron this past winter was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have ever had. (I am 50+). After being seated next to a loud party of eight to ten that was dining in an small alcove we (a party of two) asked to move. We were told that the waiter in the upstairs station was "full". (We should have left). After soup , (which was tepid and sent back), we waited. We waited. We waited. All told about 30 minutes. We asked to speak to the manager who literally threw his card on the table and told us that the order had been misplaced, BUT we would get a 10% discount. WHOA!! When the orders arrived the entrees were 1)passable and 2) oversalted. Needless to say we didn't order dessert. I attempted to contact the owner
Tony Chemmanoor and never received a return phone call.
Despite your suggestion to get there soon, I
would like to know the other facilities that are owned by Mr.Chenmmanoor so I stay away.

Do you know where Eddie Kim is as of September 14, 2008? He's an old friend of ours and I've been searching the internet for hours trying to find his current restaurant. A home phone or cell would be even better as we know him for many years in his hometown of nYC!

Chef Ed Kim is at Luminous, the restaurant at the BWI Westin.
