HBO's 'John Adams' DVD release date set

Those viewers who don't have HBO will be able to see the acclaimed John Adams miniseries starting June 10.

That's the date that the premium cable channel will release the seven-hour film about the second president of the United States on DVD for $59.99.

Among the bonus features: David McCullough: Painting with Words, a documentary that examines the work and style of the historian who won a Pulitzer Prize for his biography of Adams. The HBO film is based on McCullough's book.

In the meantime, HBO has a wonderful Web site in connection with the mini-series that includes interviews with stars Laura Linney and Paul Giamatti, as well as in-depth pieces on the history of Colonial America. See it here

HBO’s John Adams (in my opinion) has succeeded in bring American History to life. It is the most interesting, most entertaining and wonderful work I have ever had the extreme pleasure to enjoy. The casting is as good as it gets Paul Giamatti is John Adams and Laura Linney is Abigail Adams in this masterpiece. I am egger to thank the Director Tom Hooper and the Writer Kirk Ellis. My apologies for those I have over looked.

Didn't the author win the Pulitzer Prize for the book Truman, not John Adams?

McCullough won the Pultizer Prize for biography in 2002 for John Adams. He also won the same prize in 1993 for Truman.

I was watching the HBO series John Adams tonight and there was a nod at George Washington's false teeth. It made me laugh because I remembered that those teeth are on display in Baltimore at The National Museum of Dentistry. Not only that, the map that the American delegation in France used to identify the United States of America at the Treaty of Paris, the actual map from George III’s library, is on display at the Maps exhibitions running at The Walters Art Museum.
