Freebie Friday: David Sedaris 'Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk'

squirrelseekschipmunk.jpg

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you've dried out from the rain and remembered to buy your hands-free phone device.

Meanwhile, I'll be boning up on my Holly Black. I plan to read her urban fantasy novel "White Cat" this weekend, as well as the anthology she edited with Justine Larbalestier, "Zombies vs Unicorns."

But on to our winners! Congratulations, John and Michelle, you've won "Outcasts United." And don't forget to check out at least one of those One Maryland, One Book events this fall, if you enjoy it!

Next up, David Sedaris' latest, "Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary," a collection of animal fables that is sure to be a bit more humorous than Aesop's. Teaming up with illustrator Ian Falconer, this is bound to be another best-seller for Sedaris.

So tell us what you're reading, and it could be yours!

I just finished reading Tracy Chevalier's "Remarkable Creatures," which is a remarkable historical fiction based on the lives of two women who found fossils in England--at a time when only men were considered to be serious scientists. One woman is upper class, the other impoverished, but blessed with "the eye" for spotting an ancient bone in the cliffs along the shore. Their lives intertwine in unexpected ways. A great read!

I'm reading "The Summer of the Great-Grandmother," the second of Madeleine L'Engle's "Crosswicks Journals." I loved the first: "A Circle of Quiet."

Just finished Nevada Barr's new mystery, Burn.

Love David Sedaris' stuff! Am currently reading the Lark Rise trilogy by Flora Thompson.

Keeping with the animal theme...I am nearly done with Sara Gruen's "Ape House" (still). I don't know where time goes but there never seems to be enough time to read all those good books out there!
