Natasha Pettigrew, Md. Green Party candidate, dies after bike/car crash
When I'm not working or reading, you can usually find me biking -- and that's why I was distressed to hear that Natasha Pettigrew, a Maryland Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate, has died from injuries sustained in a bike-car collision.
The young woman was hit by an SUV early Sunday morning, while training for a triathlon, according to the Washington Post. Today, word came that she had died. Pettigrew wasn't going to win this election, but she had a promising future as an athlete, political candidate and law student. "We'll never know what great things could have come from this bright young woman, Green Party co-chair Karen Jennings said in a statement.
Unfortunately, this sort of accident seems more and more common, as cars get bigger and the number of bikers grows. In fact, in Baltimore County on Saturday, there will be a fund-raiser -- Larry's Ride -- for Larry Bensky, who was killed this spring while riding. He left behind a wife and two young children.
So please, next time you're on the road -- on a bike or in a car -- be careful.

To the mother, family, friends and all who loved Natasha Pettigrew. Natasha was an opponent of mine in the 2010 elections for US Senate and she was always poised and professional during the many forums and debates that we attended. Many people often ask, where are the young leaders of today, Natasha was one of them. My prayers are with her mother, family and her campaign team in these difficult times.
Respectfully,
Sanquetta Taylor/Campaign Team

My heartfelt condolonces go out to Natasha Pettigrew's family and friends. I had the pleasure of meeting her and her mother at the LWV senate candidate forum in Carroll County. She had the potential to be a force in Maryland politicsand we will be a little worst off due to her passing. May she rest in peace.

When I see an Escalade or a Suburban, I think____________________and of the driver, I think________________ (as he or she cannot fit into his or her lane?
Now would they ever throw the book at this driver? I don't think so.
The SUVs are like guns in America in my opiinion= conspicuous- and obviously, in this case, dangerous consumption.

Dear Mr. Rosenthal
How dare you say that Ms Pettigrew would not have won this election or she would have been a famous athlete if you are a very heartless person she took time out from law school to run on the green ticiket not all young women would like to become athlete, Mr Rosenthal you need to check yourself deeply and ask yourself was this apporiate thing to say or think and take some of that editoral money and see a psychologist.
Thank you for seeking help

To the family and friends of Natasha: I met Natasha at a debate in the Hampden section of Baltimore. I was so impressed by her extensive knowledge of the issues and her display of confidence. It was easy to see that she was filled with passion and the highest level of integrity. I was so impressed with her that I walked up to her and told the awesome young lady that it was clear to me that she had a bright future in politics. One of the things that impressed me most was that she never said anything negative about her the other candidates. She simply spoke strongly about her beliefs and the things she wanted to do when she got elected. Natasha was definitely a shining star who left us much too soon. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. May God bless you and yours. Elijah E. Cummings, member of U.S. Congress

I think she had a very good chance of winning considering how mad people are at the status quo!
