Bookish Oscar winners

Congratulations to all the Oscar winners whose characters were adapted from books. I think they should be required to acknowledge the original author while they're speechifying and holding their statues. (I do like how the movie "Precious" built in the title of the adapted work.) Well, if they won't do it, I'll do it. Among the big winners were:
-- Best Actor: Jeff Bridges, "Crazy Heart," from the book by Thomas Cobb.
-- Best Actress: Sandra Bullock, "The Blind Side," from the book by Michael Lewis.
-- Supporting Actress: Mo'Nique, "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire". (Geoffrey Fletcher also won for best adapted screenplay.)

I've actually seen two of those movies, but only read one of the books. That is so out of character for me - it's usually the opposite.

The press was in a frenzy over the Oscar winner “The Hurt Locker” and some journalists such as The UK Sun’s Nadia Mendoza have even gone so far as to suggest the results were rigged! Ok I think that’s a bit silly, I mean this isn’t Iran it’s the Oscars and yea we all loved Avatar, the effects, the 3D and the cute blue alien goddess …wake up people it made over 2 billion Dollars but The Hurt Locker has a way better story…That’s why it won. Problem is though, that “The Hurt Locker” was made in 2008 so it should have been up against last year’s Movies and Avatar should have won this year.

This gets me to thinking about one of yr contests- what book wld yr readers recommend for a movie that hasn't been done? I'm thinking-
Proust? nahhhh
Joyce? nahhhh
Was there ever a movie that outdid the book? Probably many.
