Arrrrgh! Treasure Island sequel on the way

treasure island sequel

In news from across the pond, the BBC notes that England's former poet laureate, Sir Andrew Motion, is writing a sequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island." The book, due to be published in 2012, will return to the story a generation later, as Jim Hawkins Jr. and Long John Silver's daughter seek out some pirate treasure that is still missing on the island.

How very British -- revisiting a classic without zombies or sea monsters. In the hands of a more cutting-edge author, Long John would be bitten by a vampire and set sail with a crew of dead men, seeking out his buried treasure.

By the way, here's a link  if you want to read the original Treasure Island.Yo ho ho!

Hmm, not sure what I think about this ... although I did just read Edward Chupack's SILVER, which is his version of Long John Silver's backstory. It was pretty good, but very different than the original story. Not sure I WANT to know how Jim Hawkins is as an adult ...

(can i come back on huh? huh?)

Let me see- Jim is now gay and working for John Edwards because they both have that Peter Pan look- and Long John has won awards for his Johnny Depp imitation on American Idol and is supposedly making a porno film sequel at the urging of Justice Clarence Thomas.

The island- rumored to be the British Virgin Island - has been turned into a theme park- featuring Blind Pew and his reggae band every Thursday.

Jim's revolver and Long John's cutlass recently brought record prices on Ebay.

Apparently, Code Pink may boycott the sequel if it is as sexist as the original- was Polly the parrot the only female character?
