Freebie Friday: John Hughes & The Brat Pack

the%20brat%20pack.jpg

Happy Friday, everybody!

With temperatures in the TEENS and TWENTIES, I'm planning on staying indoors as much as possible this weekend. I mean, I get it, it's winter. But does it have to be so horrible? At least it means plenty of reading time, right?

I'm looking forward to spending a few hours with Robert Harris' "Conspirata." I read "Imperium," the first of this trilogy about Cicero and ancient Rome, in a single sitting while taking the train up to New York City; I have high expectations for this next installment.

But on to our winner. Congratulations, Matt! You've won "Lunch in Paris." I hope you enjoy the story and the food!

Next up: "You Couldn't Ignore Me If You Tried: The Brat Pack, John Hughes, and Their Impact on a Generation," by Susannah Gora. For everyone who's wanted to know everything about Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Matthew Broderick, Rob Lowe, Ally Sheedy and John Cusack -- the list goes on -- you'll want to read this book.

So let us know what you're reading, and it could be yours!

I'm reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. And I think what would make me happiest is You Couldn't Ignore Me If You Tried. :)

Like most people in my generation, I love the John Hughes movies (even the ones without Molly Ringwald). :)

Reading David Denby's Snark (It's Mean, It's Personal, and It's Ruining Our Conversation).

Currently reading CATCHING FIRE by Suzanne Collins.

I'm definitely a 'John Hughes Generation' person. Thanks for the contest!

Reading "Await Your Reply: a Novel" by Dan Chaon

"No more yankee my wankee, the donger need food!"

I'm reading EVERYTHING RAVAGED, EVERYTHING BURNED by Wells Tower right now.

I'm just under the Brat Pack generation, but these movies were an important part of my formative years. I wanted to be Molly Ringwald.

I grew up with these films. I know that really dates me!

I am reading WHISTLIN' DIXIE IN A NOR'EASTER today!

Just about to start on THE MANY DEATHS OF THE FIREFLY BROTHERS - I'm picking it up from the library tonight.

I'm reading "How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents" by Julia Alvarez. It's my homework assignment as part of a group working to pick the book for the 2010 One Book, One Maryland program. (I'll post more on the other choices Monday.)
