Freebie Friday: Holiday edition

the%20truth%20about%20santa.jpg

In case the incessant commercials, Christmas music and stupid old snow haven't been clear enough reminders: Did you realize that Dec. 25th is well on its way?

Well, maybe I can add a little bit more cheer.

First order of business: Announcing the winner of "A Christmas Carol and Other Christmas Books." Congratulations, Lisa! I do hope you enjoy this edition of the Christmas classic.

Second order of business: This week we're giving away not one but TWO holiday books. Gregory Mone's "The Truth About Santa" explores the technology Kris Kringle has developed, including wormholes, robots and bugs implanted in ornaments to discover who's been naughty and nice. This is a great read for anyone who wants to believe in Santa again: This year, we can prove his annual visit to children worldwide is indeed scientifically feasible.

And as a bonus, we're giving away a copy of "The Gift of Murder: An Anthology of Holiday Crime Stories to Benefit Toys for Tots." Our own Gail Farrelly has contributed her short story "The Kindle Did It," along with 18 other authors. There's murder, revenge and redemption, and of course the writers all donated their time and talents to a very good cause. Tell me that doesn't warm your heart just a smidge!

So let us know what you're reading, and both of these beautiful books could be yours!

I'm engrossed in ROSES by Leila Meacham. I hope to finish it today, but have a lot of holiday chores to get done, so it might not happen.

THE GIFT OF MURDER is indeed a heart-warming effort, although some of the stories are a bit chilling. My entry, "The Gift of the Margi," caused a few people to ask if I come from a homicidal family. Only on paper, folks, and only for a good cause!

Toys for Tots benefits from sales of THE GIFT OF MURDER, so you can get your mystery fix (actually 19 of them) or give a gift to someone who loves mysteries and show your holdiday spirit at the same time. http://www.wolfmont.com/tgom/tgom.html

I took a little rest with all the holiday books and am reading The Better Part of Darkness by Kelly Gay. It's a detective story with off-worlders, aliens and humans. It's so much fun!

"The Truth about Santa" looks wonderful. And Nancy, thanks for featuring "The Gift of Murder" as well. Late shopper alert: the book is available on the Kindle! A kind person started a thread, The Kindle Did It, about the book on the Amazon Kindle Discussion Forum. Here's the link: http://tiny.cc/Mcmgk It's not only about my story but about the book in general. It's great for business. Readers, authors, publisher, and editor are interacting and having lots to say about the book and the cause.

This week I've been reading "Graffiti World," a book I won on a Freebie Friday. The text and illustrations are fantastic. As a native New Yorker, I thought I had seen it all (graffiti, that is). But this is a real eye-opener!

Nancy, thanks much for featuring THE GIFT OF MURDER. I (the publisher) and all the authors thank you for helping to publicize this effort to help Toys for Tots do a bang-up job for the kids this year.

And if you are not a Kindle user but have some other sort of ebook reader, or even read ebooks on your laptop or desktop, there are five different ebook versions of THE GIFT OF MURDER available on The Digital Bookshop. (www.digital-bookshop.com)

I'm late to the party on this but I just finished Nelson DeMille's "Gold Coast". A little long winded in parts, but very engrossing story. I re-read "The Great Gatsby" and Styron's "Lie Down in Darkness" over the summer and "Gold Coast" was a perfect follow up to those two classics.
