Freebie Friday
Happy Friday, everybody!
I'm pretty excited about the weekend, because I hope to be going back to my bookworm ways after a few exciting weeks. I'm itching to finish both King's "Under the Dome" and Westerfeld's "Leviathan." For those who are unfamiliar with Scott Westerfeld's YA best-sellers, "Leviathan" is a great way to get started. It follows the action of the start of World War I, but in a world where "Darwinists" have created genetically enhanced warbeasts and "Clankers" have highly advanced -- for their time -- technology.
In less than one week, we'll all be in a turkey-induced stupor, so I thought it would be entirely appropriate to give away a book about food. "Julie and Julia" author Julie Powell's latest, "Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat and Obsession," to be precise.
So tell us what you're reading, and it could be yours!

I'm so happy Julie P won! I'm reading Homer's Odyssey by Gwen Cooper and I'm loving it. I'd love to be entered for Cleaving.

I'm reading Wally Lamb's Wishin' and Hopin' and it's moving along. It's about a fifth-grade boy at a Catholic school in Connecticut in 1964. The cover says it's a Christmas Story, but we're only in mid-October on page 73.

Just started The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton and had a hard time putting it down and turning off the light last night. It reminds me of The 13th Tale in that books are featured and there is a mystery surrounding identity.

Reading South of Broad by Pat Conroy....not as vividly rendered as Prince of Tides or The Great Santini but enjoyable none-the-less.
And easy, enjoyable journey south.

I re-read Sue Grafton's "A is for Alibi" and found it just as good as it was in 1982! I couldn't resist, since it was on sale in the Kindle store for $2.17.
I may have mentioned this before, but the best blog for announcing Kindle freebies and sales is here:

For example, I just read there that you can, right now, download 4 Scarpetta novels (by Patricia Cornwell)for a TOTAL of $7.99. Here's the Amazon link:

Just finished reading Dog Is My Co-Pilot by the Editors of Bark Magazine. There are a lot of dog books out there, and this collection of essays is just the appetizer which can be digested in bite-size pieces. The various essays will tug at your heartstrings and make you want to run out to a shelter and bring a needy canine home for the holidays. An out and out pleasurable read.
