Drinking and reading

hot%20chocolate.jpgOn a day as grey as this one, I'd love to be reading in a cafe, with a cup of hot chocolate perched nearby. (Hold the whipped cream, I'm watching my calories.)

When I read, I usually have a drink at hand. Mornings, it's hot chocolate and at lunch, it's iced tea. At night, when most of my reading is done, it's a liqueur: sambuca or limoncello. (I've often felt that in a previous life I was an Italian fisherman.)

Nancy says reading is all about the book, so she doesn't multi-task by reading and drinking. Poor thing, she doesn't know what she's missing.

What's your beverage of choice while reading?

Sorry, I'm with Nancy.

Tea, definitely tea. Nothing better on a cold gray day than a book and a mug of tea and curling up in my reading chair. Though, if it's hot out, juice or water rather than tea.

Reading and drinking beer or wine is too distracting, I think. Sensory overload.

Well I'm kind of with Nancy too. I get so preoccupied with reading that I forget to drink. I do usually have water, coffee or a glass of wine in the evenings at hand just in case.

Tea, when I'm at home and can curl up. Maybe a glass of wine in the evening, although I'm inclined to fall asleep with wine. At lunch - and due to downsizing, attrition and transfers to other locations (although people in the latter category seem never to be heard from again) it's good that I can entertain myself at lunchtime - I have a bottle of green tea.

I'm going to try this drinking thing tonight, but I'm skeptical. When I read, I want to be carried away with the words, not focus on my thirst.

To Nancy and all the tea-totalers: Sometimes, after a few night-time drinks, the writing seems MUCH better.

I don't like hot drinks, but I love drinks like Pepsi, chocolate milk, and plain old water while I'm reading. I find, though, that when I'm reading from my Kindle, drinking on the side isn't as much fun, because I have to be SO careful not to spill anything on it. It's one thing to ruin a single book; it's another to ruin a $359 electronic device packed with books and notes. And, unfortunately, I am a bit of a klutz.......

Sugar, with coffee and milk. 1/2 caff.
