Freebie Friday
Happy Freebie Friday, everyone!
As the first day of my weekend, I usually spend the day reading and doing anything but work.
But today, I have the extraordinary treat of perusing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, by Seth Grahame-Smith and, oh yes, Jane Austen.
No, it isn't Emma. It's not even Northanger Abbey. But Lizzie kicks a zombie IN THE FACE. And there seem to be ninjas, although that's just me skipping ahead to look at the pictures.
Oh, and can we prove Dave wrong this week, and find some guys who've read Pride and Prejudice? He says such men don't exist.
Anyway, on to our winner! Congratulations, Lisa! You've won yourself a copy of Christopher Moore's Fool.
I don't think it's going to be anything like Fatal Light, but maybe you need some cheering up by now.
Next week's prize: Jailbait Zombie, by Mario Acevedo. It's a detective story, with a supernatural twist. Also, Acevedo, whom I met at last year's Bouchercon, is an incredibly funny, kind and generous man. You just can't lose with this one.
So let us know what you're reading now, and it could be yours. And past winners, feel free to let us know how much you love or hate the books we've sent you!

Nance, I started Mark Danielewski's creepy House of Leaves last night. I know you loved it, so I'm anxious about what zombies, vampires and other other-wordly characters await.

World Wide Rave: Creating Triggers that Get Millions of People to Spread Your Ideas and Share Your Stories. Author: David Meerman Scott. This was a free book when I first got my Kindle, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did. I want to learn more about modern marketing. It's a little repetitive, but it DOES have some very good examples of successful strategies.

I started and quit Pursuit by Karen Robards after not-quite 2 chapters. The out-of-my-control device was already overworked. (She's bullied by her boss, the sr. partner in the law firm and "used" by her college aged sister.) It was as though Robards wrote an outline of the book and then couldn't figure out how to logicaly make the events happen.
It seems to me that this is the 2nd week ina row that I've said that I quit on my book because I didn't like the device. Hmmmm. Could it be me?? Nope.

Is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as weird as it seems?
And, JUST A MINUTE! Jailbait Zombie. - Is that woman wearing handcuffs? In a graveyard? Does your mother know what you're reading??

No vampires in this one, Dave. Just creepiness.
And I'm not reading Jailbait Zombie! I'm giving it away! Don't sic my mom on me! So far, PPZ is exactly what I'd hoped for -- pure silliness. Let's hope your next selection doesn't disappoint you, Eve.
